Finance Lease Accountant

The GBS (Global Business Services) Finance – North America team is responsible for recording and reporting on real estate transactions for over 2,000 franchisees and more than 15,000 restaurants in the U.S. and Canada. They are responsible for the calculation and billing of rents and service fees to franchisees and tenants, all lease related and real estate tax payment and accounting activities, and construction project and fixed asset accounting processes.

Based out of our global headquarters in the West Loop in downtown Chicago, the Finance Lease Accountant position within GBS offers a tremendous opportunity for an individual to gain a broad understanding of the various functions and inputs within McDonald’s leasing transactions as well as gaining exposure to our global business environment. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain lease notifications and payment schedules to ensure accuracy of fixed rent, percentage rent and CAM/Tax payments to landlords in accordance with lease terms.
  • Review statements from landlords and analyze whether payment is due. Reconcile landlord billings for year cam/tax obligations for refund or payable.
  • Review and prepare audit packets for lease transactions noting the accounting implications.
  • Complete month end close process.
  • Gain valuable knowledge of the TRIRIGA system and the implications of required accounting treatments for lease transactions to meet FASB requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX and company policies for assigned lease accounting processes.
  • Address customer inquiries from landlords, market finance, legal and asset management teams related to lease transactions.
  • Assist with various ad-hoc requests and special projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred
  • 1+ years of qualifying lease expense accounting experience
  • High proficiency in Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Experience with using TRIRIGA and Oracle software is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong customer experience focus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Continuous improvement mindset to enhance processes and maximize productivity
