The Role
You will provide comprehensive engineering, commissioning, and start-up support for our distributed generation and storage projects. This includes factory acceptance testing of natural gas generators and deploying on-site microgrid controllers and network devices to communicate, configure, and control distributed energy resources and microgrid assets – such as solar, energy storage, switchgear, and reciprocating engines.
The role is ideally based in the NJ Tri-State area (NY/NJ/CT) or California. The role requires a significant amount of travel for up to 10 days at a time.
Key responsibilities will include:
Factory Testing:
Lead the factory test of our natural gas generator equipment, with the assistance of a Sr. Controls Engineer from the corporate office
Configure and download all ComAp, PLC, and controls software required to start up and run units
Connect laptop on-site for monitoring and storing test run data
Conduct tests of units at various loads and compare them to OEM factory test sheets to ensure similar results
Conduct sound and emissions tests
Ensure all communications are functional for monitoring the system
Ensure all sensors for data transducers are functional and calibrated
Inspect equipment for proper installation by contractors
System Site Testing:
Instruct customers and others on the operation and maintenance of equipment as needed
Support project teams with start-up, commission, service, and repair of customer equipment
Ability to troubleshoot network configuration issues, firewalls, and connectivity to the cloud
Perform testing, calibration, checking, correcting, adjusting, and part component replacement services on customer products
Deploy PLC and microgrid control applications on local controllers and validate the sequence of operation and telemetry
Troubleshoot microgrid control panel and generator control panel issues by reading electrical schematics and control logic
Construct and test circuits and equipment
Analyze complex problems in equipment and machinery and interpret maintenance manuals, using knowledge of systems and electronics to isolate and correct the fault
Consult with product support and product engineering personnel to determine solutions to complex problems in system operation
Develop and implement workaround modifications as needed
Develop and maintain ongoing customer relationships concerning all aspects of equipment operation, repair, and maintenance
The Ideal Candidate
Two-year degree or technical certification in an electrical-related program and/or 5+ years of work experience as a shop or field electrical technician.
Exhibit knowledge of control circuits and PLCs, gas engine controls, switchgear controls, generator installation, solar inverters, and batteries, and a willingness to learn from others as needed.
Understanding of specific standards included in the EGSA certification.
Demonstrate knowledge of basic distribution protective relay testing, breaker function testing, and generator testing.
Willing and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Prepared to travel approximately 50% of the time.
