(FI) Senior International Tax Manager

At the Global Headquarters of Backbase in Amsterdam, we have an opening for a new Senior International Tax Manager position. 

Reporting directly to the Group Tax Director, you will play a crucial role in managing our global tax operations and ensuring compliance with international tax regulations. You will be involved in a broad range of activities, from managing tax audits and resolving tax controversies to involvement in M&A projects and implementation/improvement of internal tax processes and tooling. 

This position requires a deep understanding of international tax laws and regulations, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Meet the job

  • Tax Strategy and Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive international tax strategies that align with Backbase's business goals and optimize tax positions;
  • Advisory Services: Act as day-to-day tax advisor and provide expert tax advice and support to our business (Sales), and business support teams (Finance/HR/Legal/Business Control) on cross-border transactions and tax implications. Ability to understand, assist in the design and coordinate the implementation of legal structures and review documents/legal contracts from a tax perspective;
  • Compliance and Reporting: Oversee the preparation and submission of all international tax filings and transfer pricing documentation / filings and ensure compliance with relevant tax laws, OECD guidelines and local regulations (in collaboration our Finance team and external advisers);
  • Tax Risk Management: Identify and assess tax risks and opportunities as well as meaningful tax incentives relating R&D and develop strategies to mitigate potential tax liabilities. Manage tax audits and disputes with tax authorities, including negotiating and resolving tax issues;
  • Collaboration and Leadership: Lead M&A and cross-functional projects and implement/improve internal (tax) processes and technology;
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with changes in international tax laws and regulations, and proactively recommend improvements to existing processes and policies. Contribute to tax awareness in the fast-growing organization and mentor and coach tax team members.

How about you?

  • Education: Master's degree in tax law, fiscal economics, tax accounting, or similar qualification; CA/CPA/ACCA;
  • Experience: minimum of 8 years of work experience  in international tax management, preferably within a multinational corporation or a Big Four accounting firm. Prior experience in the financial services industry is not a must, but a plus;
  • Technical Skills: Excellent understanding of Dutch corporate income tax, VAT, and international tax concepts, including WHT. Good understanding of Transfer pricing, and other Indirect Tax concepts and processes. Proficiency in tax compliance and reporting software;
  • Analytical Skills:  Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Communication Skills: Excellent command of Dutch and English, both verbal and written;
  • Leadership: You perform well in an international work environment where autonomous working and taking initiatives are highly valued. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to adapt to changing priorities – get the job done mentality;
  • Interpersonal Skills: Team player with strong communication skills. Able to communicate technical concepts to non-specialists (sales, legal, HR) clearly and comprehensively.
