Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician III to join our team at our fermentation plant. This critical role ensures the performance and safety of the plant’s equipment and systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural components. As the Facilities Maintenance Technician III, you will perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to support plant safety and production goals. This position requires technical expertise, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to work in a regulated, clean manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance and Repairs
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility systems, including HVAC, boilers, compressors, plumbing, electrical, and other mechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair process equipment issues to minimize downtime and maintain compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Facility Systems Management
- Monitor and maintain water treatment, wastewater, and other critical facility systems, ensuring proper operation and adherence to environmental regulations.
- Inspect and maintain piping, valves, and pumps associated with fermentation processes, ensuring efficiency and regulatory compliance.
Safety and Compliance
- Execute maintenance activities according to safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and hazardous materials handling.
- Promote a culture of safety within the facility and ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work, inspections, repairs, and replacements.
Preventive Maintenance
- Develop and follow a preventive maintenance schedule for facility and equipment upkeep.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with production and quality control teams to minimize disruptions.
Inventory and Documentation
- Manage an inventory of spare parts and tools for repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Document maintenance work and equipment performance metrics in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) as needed.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with the production team, engineers, and contractors on projects and equipment upgrades.
- Provide technical support during facility improvements, expansions, and modifications.
Qualifications
Education and Experience

Required: High school diploma or GED; Preferred: Associate’s degree in industrial maintenance, engineering, or related field.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years in maintenance within a manufacturing or industrial setting, ideally in fermentation, food production, pharmaceuticals, or biotechnology.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Familiarity with HVAC, boilers, pumps, piping, and other facility equipment.
- Skilled in using maintenance tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Certifications in HVAC, electrical, or industrial maintenance (e.g., CMRP, CFMA) are advantageous.
Additional Requirements
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Knowledge of safety and regulatory standards.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, and working in confined spaces.
- Must work in a clean, regulated environment, adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety standards.
Preferred Attributes
- Confined space entry training and certification.
- Boiler technician certification.
Plus Attributes
- Experience in a GMP environment.
- Welding certification.
- HVAC technician certification.
