Position Summary: 

The Machinist II HF (Hydroflo) sets up and operates machine tools to process machine metal work pieces according to project specifications, tooling instructions and standard charts. They coach and mentor other machinists and perform advanced machining for more complex and/or customized products. 

Measures of Success

  • Achieve the production plan as defined in the annual budget 
  • Maintains inventory accuracy and performs cycle counts as defined in the branch’s annual objectives 
  • 100% compliance with Hydroflo’s safety requirements 
  • No machine parts related customer complaints 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Operates machine tools to include but not limited to lathes, milling machines, grinders, pipe threaders, hydraulic presses, drill presses, settling torches, plasma cutters, and welders in accordance with training and safety procedures. 
  • Creates component parts from base metals by applying advanced knowledge of machining methods. 
  • Demonstrates understanding of different types of metals and their impact on product performance 
  • Calculates stretch for the total pump length (TPL) for custom applications 
  • Reads work orders and job specifications for highly engineered and customized products to obtain specifications such as dimensions/tolerances and tooling instructions (fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and cutting tools). 
  • Positions and secures work pieces to holding devices, machine tables, chucks, centers or fixtures using clamps and wrenches. 
  • Sets specified feeds, speeds of depth of cut in accordance with product specifications and tooling instructions. 
  • Observes operation and verifies conformance of machined work pieces to specifications using measuring instruments such as fixed gauges, calipers, comparators, and micrometers. 
  • Processes standard and customized production jobs according to required production schedule as well as ad hoc customer needs. 
  • Consults management to analyze product information to include product design capacity, purpose and type of materials to be used in fabrication or to analyze written specifications, drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions to plan layouts and determine sequences of operations. 
  • Designs fixtures, tooling and experimental parts to meet special needs. 
  • Performs heat treating and welding techniques as needed. 
  • Completes production paperwork and inspection procedures as directed.  Signs off on quality control inspection sheets. 
  • Reports any discrepancies to management. 
  • Maintains tools, gauges, and equipment in a clean, safe and orderly manner. 
  • Complies with company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.   
  • Communicates effectively and participates as a team player. 
  • Coaches, guides and mentors other Machinists and provides training as needed.  
  • Uses proper lift methods for using electric hoist. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • 7+ years of machinist experience 
  • Prior pump experience  
  • Capability of communicating easily with supervisor and peers in a team environment 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects where priority changes based on customer demand is frequent 
  • Must be able to read and understand complex detailed work orders and engineered drawings and translate that information into the machining and tooling processes, including basic math and measurement conversions 
  • Able to work with hands using machines and tools 
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills 
  • Ability to read blueprints and specifications 
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and up to 150 pounds with assistance 
  • Ability to manage time appropriately  
  • No travel required 

Work Environment

This position works primarily in a production floor environment where large equipment and noise are prevalent.  Safety gear is required in these areas.

This position reports into the site every day.

This position has no direct reports.
