THE DEPARTMENT: IT Electric Operations
The IT Electric Operations department at PG&E is dedicated to providing innovative technology solutions that enhance the efficiency and reliability of electric operations. Their team works closely with various departments to implement and maintain systems that support asset management, work management, and operational excellence. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, they aim to improve service delivery, reduce operational risks, and ensure the safety of our infrastructure. Their focus areas include the integration of SAP PM, SAP EAM, GIS, and other specialized tools that support the lifecycle of electric utility assets, including distribution poles, transmission towers, and substations.
THE POSITION: Expert IT Project Manager
The Expert IT Project Manager will oversee multiple high-profile projects within the IT Electric Operations department, ensuring they meet budgetary, timeline, and quality targets. This role requires expertise in substation projects and experience similar to high-level management in electric operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage multiple large-scale, highly complex projects ($5M, 10 FTEs), coordinating a team of Senior Project Managers.
- Support PMO leadership to optimize resource allocation.
- Determine budgets and staffing for business cases.
- Submit PMA and PM performance assessments for project stages, mid-year, and year-end reviews.
- Take on challenged projects as needed, closely supervising incumbent PMs.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for project methodologies and financial analytics.
- Actively mentor Project Managers (PMs) and Project Management Associates (PMAs).
THE RIGHT CANDIDATE: QUALIFICATIONS/PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 8+ years of experience in IT project management, with a focus on staffing or resource management.
- Experience in electric operations within a utility environment.
- Knowledge and experience with asset work management, particularly distribution poles, transmission towers, and substations.
- Proficiency in Project Document Management (PDM) and Project Portfolio Management (PPM) tools.
- Experience managing 30+ FTEs as part of a single 12+ month project.
- Experience with managing 5+ projects ($5M labor each) and leading 5+ PMAs and 2 PMs from planning to completion.
- Proficiency in SAP PM, SAP EAM, and GIS.
- Bonus: Experience with PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, AUD, Estimating Tools, and Substation Design Suite.
