Events Assistant - GA (AY 24-25 C91339)

This position assists the Director of Events in planning and executing events for the campus. Duties may include but not limited to creating invitations, filing, making nametags and other meeting materials, distributing flyers in the community, helping to research event venues, closing files, running errands to prepare for events, and helping to staff events (including setup/cleanup).  

Hours: 3 to 6 hours per week, flexible based on class schedule; final hours arranged with student and supervisor with hours between 8:30am – 5:00pm M – F. some evening work at events may be requested.  

 

Requirements: 

Candidate must be detail-oriented, organized, flexible, reliable, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Must exercise creativity, resourcefulness, composure, and discretion. Must have solid communication skills and be willing to interact with community constituents. Congeniality and sense of humor a plus. Position requires light to moderate physical effort and ability to stand for long periods of time esp. during events.  Experience with Microsoft Suite required: experience in some design software such as InDesign or Canva preferred. Preference given to candidates who have previous experience in events or in hospitality setting or candidates who are interested in pursuing a career in this field.  

Status as a current MIIS student with proper documentation for employment is required

Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.

Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.

Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.

Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
