Under general direction of the Cath Lab Manager, Director of Cardiac Services and the Cath Lab Medical Director. The EP Specialist works effectively in rendering individualized patient care to less acutely ill patients, critically and/or acutely ill patients. Patient care assignments include patient care, scrubbing and assisting the physician, and/or team leader in the Cath Lab for all diagnostic caths, interventional coronary procedures, electrophysiology, radio frequency ablations and AICD procedures

- Manages the Cath Lab schedule, as team leader.
- Assigns staff and physicians to appropriate rooms.
- Ensures appropriate equipment, supplies for procedures.
- Deals with Physician, employee and other departmental issues.
- Coordinates Departmental Performance Improvement program and participates in hospital Performance Improvement process.
- Develops and gives departmental educational programs with emphasis on new procedures and supplies.
- Coordinates Cath Lab cost containment program with vendor management. Includes Cardiologists in process.
- Maintains in-house and non-stock supplies for Lab including AICDs.
- Provides health care service and maintains interpersonal relationships in own job category to all age groups as applicable to job functions.
Department Specific Competencies
- Assists with Electrophysiology and RF ablations; operates electrophysiology computer, amplifiers, ablation unit and stimulators; measures intervals and identifies changes.
- Assists supervisor in updating policy and procedures relative to Electrophysiology.
- Mentors and trains staff in use of electrophysiology equipment.
- Performs the duties and assumes the responsibilities of a Cardiovascular Technician I in addition to behaviors defined below.
- Provides, coordinates orientation and mentors new Cardio Vascular Techs.
- Maintains in-house and non-stock supplies for Lab including AICDs.
- Coordinates with vendors and other in-house IT resources on implementations.
- Assists in the assignment of special projects to individuals within the department.
