Weston is seeking an Environmental Project Scientist to carry out project duties established by the Project Manager. The objective is to produce a result (monitoring, data, analysis and conclusions, final report, recommendations, etc.) which satisfies the client's needs.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

BS or BA in natural sciences plus 5-8 years’ experience; geology degree/licensed geologist is a plus

Experience in performing remedial investigations and remedial actions in New Jersey is required.

Working knowledge of New Jersey technical requirements for site remediation is required.

Understanding of NJDEP regulations specifically Technical Requirements for Site Remediation, NJDEP Field Sampling Procedures Manual, drilling guidance and NJAC 7:9D, NJDEP soil and groundwater remedial standards, etc. is required.

Knowledge and experience in soil logging using the unified soil Classification System (USCS), Burmister, etc.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues or problems in the field and office is required.
- Experience in oversight of field activities, including drilling operations & monitoring well installation, excavation and UST removal activities, soil, groundwater, and waste sampling, hazardous/non-hazardous waste requirements, SI/RI/RA investigations and field work implementation, H&S requirements and personal and/or community air monitoring is desired.

Experience with construction aspects of remediation systems is desirable.
- Understanding of SESC measures, best construction management practices, and dewatering experience a plus.

Proficient in PA/SI/RI/RA report writing and review is preferred in accordance with NJDEP regulations/guidance and Site Remediation Reform Act (SRRA) forms.

Excellent communication skills working with subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and clients is preferred.
- Able to work well with project team members and other consultants or companies.
- Able to identify problems, evaluate potential solutions, and address these items with field/office team members as well as with clients.
- Able to provide safety oversight in the field and be versed at completing safety related documents.

Certifications for the following: 40 hr OSHA HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR, and 8 hr Supervisor. A plus if you have a 10 hr or 30 hr OSHA Construction cert.
Expected Outcomes

Collects samples, analyzes data and prepares reports in area of specialty on projects.
- Maintains up-to-date sampling, monitoring and testing techniques ensuring the credibility of data collected.
- Prepares and recommends scientifically valid and appropriate quality assurance program for data collection activities.

Coordinates scientific findings with other scientific disciplines and organizations. Demonstrate inter-relationships of biological and chemical parameters measured.

Provides technical assistance to ensure that the environmental report is technically valid and results are coordinated for added continuity and control of project reports.
- Prepares the sections of proposals relating to his or her area of specialty within regards to scope, man-hours, and equipment needed.
- Is familiar with potential hazards (safety and health) associated with project activities and advises project manager of procedures to mitigate.

Acting as a working leader, coordinates all sampling and analytical activities in an efficient manner to ensure that the project requirements and deadlines are met.
- Coordinates the preparation of required interim and final reports for projects.

Acts as liaison with other scientific and engineering disciplines to ensure the efficient and smooth implementation to project directives.

As needed, conducts literature surveys encompassing all disciplines studies for projects.

Site responsibilities range from being totally responsible for the execution of a job to directing the efforts of 5 to 10 people from his/her own and other departments. At times, may function as part of project managed by another department of division. Output may consist of a few pages or an entire report.

Past and prospective clients may be contacted for information purposes, usually with the Project Manager's prior knowledge.

Serves as leader of a field data collection team. Controls all field operations, data collection techniques, analyses, timetables, field budgets.
- Writes proposals, 255 Forms, and gives presentations to prospective clients.

Analyzes problems via literature search and information compilation. Understands and conducts scientific literature searches.
- Assesses data as it relates to project information collected.
- Usually produces results in the form of reports.
