Position Scope:
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations. This role involves conducting risk assessments, training employees, and fostering a culture of safety within the organization. The successful candidate must be hands-on, comfortable with occasional travel, and experienced in injury case management, developing effective EH&S Management Systems, and identifying, eliminating, and controlling hazardous conditions. Interaction with plant/facility management and resource conservation is a critical element of this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels. Stay updated with legislative changes and advise management on necessary adjustments.
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, policies, and procedures. Conduct regular reviews, audits, and updates to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
- Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses. Identify potential safety and environmental hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees, ensuring all staff are aware of safety procedures and protocols.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes. Prepare reports and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of facilities, equipment, and processes. Identify areas for improvement and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.
- Oversee environmental programs, including waste management, pollution control, and sustainability initiatives. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable practices.
- Develop, implement, and maintain documentation processes to support ISO management systems.
- Maintain accurate records of EHS activities, incidents, training, and inspections. Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as Sales, Human Resources, Operations, and Facilities, to integrate EHS considerations into all aspects of the organization’s activities.
- Ensure Canada ISO 45001 audit readiness and compliance.
- Monitor and improve sales safety performance, including customer safety.
- Lead resource and sustainability initiatives, promoting sustainable practices across the organization.
- Serve as the OKR (Objectives and Key Results) Champion for Canada, driving performance and alignment with company goals.
Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., CRSP, CSP, CHSC) are an asset.

Experience: 3-5 years of experience in an EHS role, preferably in a similar industry.

Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Canadian EHS regulations and standards. Familiarity with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 standards is desirable.

Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and training abilities. Proficient in using EHS management software and tools.

Attributes: Detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working independently and as part of a team. Strong commitment to promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
Working Conditions:

Environment: Office setting with regular visits to industrial or operational sites across Canada.

Physical Demands: Ability to conduct inspections and audits, which may involve standing, walking, climbing, and exposure to various environmental conditions.

Travel: Occasional travel may be required to different company locations or for training purposes.
Salary: $60 – 75k (based on experience)
