The Search Relevance team owns end-to-end Wolt’s search stack that retrieves and ranks restaurants, stores, dishes and items for our customers’ queries. The team combines Software Engineering, ML Engineering and Applied Science capabilities to provide high-quality results for hundreds of customer queries per second.
Search is a prominent tool in Wolt’s customer experience. Firstly, Wolt’s global search allows Wolt customers to find venues and products that can be delivered to their location amongst Wolt’s partners. Secondly, Wolt’s in-venue search allows Wolt customers to find the right items within a single store’s large assortment. Search is also one of the drivers of Wolt’s business KPIs as the team can help Wolt customers to find the right products they need, having a direct impact on our customers’ orders and their value.
Wolt is looking for a new Team Lead to accompany the team in their journey of incrementally improving the quality of our search results. As an Engineering Team Lead in Wolt’s Search Relevance team you will:
Coach, mentor and lead a cross-disciplinary team of Software Engineers, ML Engineers and Applied Scientists to provide solutions to customer problems with a direct impact on the company’s business KPIs.
Collaborate with the departments Heads of Engineering, Applied Science and Product to shape the team’s vision and delivery roadmap.
Manage the team stakeholders making sure that the team has a healthy balance of impact, exploration and tech debt.
Work at Wolt’s scale: Wolt operates in 27 different markets with as many languages and millions of customers.
Build the team’s ML pipelines that retrieve and rank results for Wolt’s customer queries.
Lead the team on delivering projects such as venue & item ranking, query understanding and classification, or semantic search.
Guide the team on optimizing our stack and models to serve hundreds of results per second with low latency.
Drive the team KPIs and prove customer and business impact.
You have a track record of delivering ML to production in scale (ML solutions to millions of users with proven impact).
You have working experience in Search/Personalization/Recommendations or other related domains (e.g. gaming, auctioning, campaign targeting, etc).
You can manage senior stakeholders and advocate for trade offs between speed, impact and performance.
Experience in operating and maintaining ML models in production with automated delivery and retraining pipelines.
You know how to evaluate ML models offline, which metrics to use, and how to compare different variants of a model and how to online evaluate the team contributions.
You have solid experience (minimum 1 year) as a people lead of a cross-functional team: competence development, performance evaluation and review, and cross-team collaboration.
📍This open role can be based in all of our tech hubs in Helsinki, Stockholm, Berlin or Tallinn, and we're open to remote-working candidates. This can vary depending on the exact team and their main location. You can choose whether you want to work from home, from the office or hybrid.
