Engineering Manager

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager with a strong background in Ecommerce to lead our ecommerce focused engineering team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in enabling our digital team to deliver exceptional online experiences that delight our customers and drive the growth of our e-commerce platform.

This role will report into the Technical Director and be part of the Technical Senior Leadership Team. Day to day you will be working and leading the E-commerce engineers and working closely with the wider Digital team.

The Role

Your daily to-dos might look like this:
Strategic Leadership: Work with the senior technology team to develop and implement a comprehensive digital technology strategy to drive innovation and meet business objectives.

Team Management: Manage and mentor a team of 5-6 engineers across multiple levels. Taking responsibility for their growth and development.

Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance when necessary, supporting the design, development, and implementation of scalable and reliable digital solutions.

Stakeholder Communication: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into strategic initiatives that resonate with non-technical audiences.

Delivery: Work closely with Product Managers and Engineers to define and manage multiple deliveries and take end-to-end ownership of your products/projects.

Requirements

These skills will help you go far in this role:

• This role is predominately hands off but will require in depth knowledge of Microservice/Distributed systems and working in a continuous delivery environment.

• Experience managing and building engineering teams
• Has previously worked in E-commerce at a similar level
• Exposure / awareness of modern day programming languages (TypeScript, Golang etc)
• Strong engineering background
• Proven track record working in agile environments
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with both technical colleagues and the wider business, translating complex technical concepts into simple terms where required.
