We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of dedicated software engineers that develop a core part of Sinch’s Messaging Ecosystems in our mission to deliver robust software solutions at scale. With a focus on fostering team excellence and engagement, you’ll play a key role in delivering and operating software in a highly scalable, highly available and distributed cloud-based environment.

 

A multi-functional team that sets its own objectives and goals with responsibility for every stage of product development life cycle from planning and design to implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.  You’re passionate about building high-performing teams, guiding, and coaching your team to develop skills, and processes to ensure software is continually delivered to our customers.

 

Tech stack: NodeJS, Java, Postgres, Kubernetes, React. Other teams also use GO and Python. 

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage employee career development by providing coaching and mentoring to junior engineers while guiding senior contributors to maximise their potential.  Complete performance check-in’s collaborate with team members on their objectives and provide a clear path for progression through personal development plans.
  • Own, operate and maintain your team’s services.  Employ Agile methodologies to continuously deliver value to customers. Institute and maintain a rotating on-call incident escalation and response processes for the team.
  • Leverage your people skills and commercial acumen to ensure that your team understand how their efforts impact the delivery of commercial products and provide estimates for delivery to your stakeholders.
  • Collaborate on roadmaps with Product Managers and your team to ensure the team has clear direction and priorities.  Ensure there is cross-training and a healthy balance between features and technical debt.
  • Serve as the team’s Scrum Master, breaking down roadblocks as well as managing communications with stakeholders and dependent teams.
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement through retrospection.
  • Institute development best practices to ensure the team produces high quality, well architected and supportable code.

 

The successful candidate will have solid software engineering experience with recent leadership/management responsibilities. You demonstrate excellent communication skills and have the ability to influence both technical individual contributors and business stakeholders. You are familiar with trunk based development, IaC / GitOps and related CI/CD toolset and building services/tools that developers use to build/run their workloads. You have proven experience in high level languages like Java, Go and Typescript, working across multiple technology stacks using different programming paradigms. You excel in a customer focused environment, ideally within a SaaS or subscription business.
