The Role
Pantheon is looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to join our team in Bangalore, India. This hands-on Manager will be responsible for technically leading and managing a team based remotely throughout India. We’re expanding an impressive and growing platform that powers hundreds of thousands of websites, millions of containerized resources, billions of monthly page views, and development tools that professional website developers use.
What You Need to Succeed
- A deep understanding and interest in computer science fundamentals is essential, including data structures and algorithms proficiency. Pantheon manages petabytes of data for our customers and we are frequently looking at ways to optimize this storage for performance, and efficiency. Having an understanding of modern garbage collection algorithms, particularly approaches similar to Java’s generational (“old gen,” “new gen,” “perm gen”/”metaspace”) model, is strongly preferred.
- Strong technical leadership skills and a passion for mentoring and developing engineering talent. You will be directly responsible for driving your team’s success through hands-on guidance, coaching, and troubleshooting.
- Experience working in a hands-on capacity while managing a team. You’ll be involved in both high-level technical decisions and detailed problem-solving sessions.
- A deep understanding of scalable cloud architectures and an enthusiasm for working with cutting-edge cloud technologies, guiding your team through design and development phases.
- Clear, confident communication skills to lead technical architecture discussions and contribute to both team and organizational goals. Your ability to explain complex concepts simply will ensure the success of both the team and the business.
What you Bring to the Table
- 5+ years of experience in both technical leadership and team management.
- 10+ years of hands-on development within cloud-based environments.
- A proven track record of successfully balancing strategic leadership and day-to-day technical contributions.
- Strong programming proficiency in languages such as Java, Python, or Go, and a passion for coding and code reviews as a key part of your role.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure), combined with a deep understanding of how to architect and manage scalable infrastructure.
- An ability to manage databases and data storage solutions (e.g., MySQL, Postgres, Cassandra), using your experience to guide your team through technical challenges.
- A problem-solving mindset and attention to detail, actively seeking out issues to resolve and empowering your team to do the same.
- A collaborative, proactive approach with the ability to foster strong relationships with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, ensuring alignment across business and technical objectives.
