Weatherford is hiring a Manufacturing Engineering Manager for our West Hardy Road facility in Houston. This is a hands-on, rewarding role that you’ll design, develop and implement manufacturing processes, equipment and systems to enable optimized production efficiency while maintaining focus on cost efficient solutions, sustaining high quality product results, and enabling design for manufacturability in new designs. Provide guidance and support for solving complex technical problems that arise in manufacturing production.  Coordinate the orderly transition and installation of new processes and/or methods in accordance with product specifications with a Lean Manufacturing approach in an inclusive team in a fast-paced, progressive environment. Roles & Responsibilities

SAFETY, SECURITY & COMPLIANCE

QUALITY

  • Maintains service quality as immediate priorities when working across all areas of the business and continually seeks areas for improvement
  • Design and develop manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems at the plant level to improve process capability, quality and manufacturing readiness

OPERATIONS

  • Partner with Engineering department on design process of new or revised products and coordinate smooth transition from R&D to production in Manufacturing
  • Create BOMs and routings for newly released Part Numbers and revise BOMs and routings when processes are updated and/or Lean Manufacturing efforts create increased efficiency of the manufacturing steps
  • Design, develop, test, source and cost-justify various tools, machinery and equipment for new or improved manufacturing methods
  • Identify and develop collaborative solutions for continuous improvement on issues within the production workflow such as level loading, production bottlenecks, machine reliability, general production related work flow waste
  • Prepare or direct the preparation of Model facility and/or equipment layout and detail drawings in CAD Engineering software
  • Make key decisions, resolve issues and oversee projects to shape manufacturing success
  • Lead ECN implementation, including review of drawing and attributes for completeness, providing guidance to Manufacturing team (e.g. part extension, BOM updates, router updates, scrap implementation, etc.) and coordinating the rest of the team (Finance, Purchasing, Planning, etc.) to ensure manufacturing readiness
  • Provide disposition for NCRs on incoming products per Quality procedures for ME
  • Provide technical guidance for manufacturing activities (e.g. technical support for Procurement, external vendors, troubleshooting support for shop floor, guidance to Customer Service for new part requests, etc.)
  • Recommend and implement improvements to production processes, methods and controls
  • Support the Quoting process and Order Management process by supplying pertinent information as required
  • Write procedures and reports, including revisions to manufacturing documentation (e.g. PFT, Work Instructions, Technical Procedures, etc.)

COMMUNICATION

  • Maintain effective communications with all key stakeholders, both internal and external where applicable
  • Supervisors & Managers should clearly communicate expectations, roles and responsibilities to their reports.
  • Collaborate with Engineering department to ensure all items (upper level and sub levels) of BOM are entered into Windchill
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Category Management and Manufacturing to simulate and assign the manufacturing COGS to the parts/product
  • Collaborate with global cross-functional teams to develop, innovate and implement manufacturing technology best practices

FINANCIAL

  • All employees have an accountability to the organisation to be financially responsible whether they are in charge of a function budget or simply their own expenses.
  • Costs incurred should be within approved budget, processed within agreed time frames & following the relevant financial policy and procedure.
  • Prepare feasibility studies and thorough cost justification for projects
  • Monitor production output and collaborate to implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs

PEOPLE & DEVELOPMENT

  • Supervisors should collaborate with Human Resources & Training Development to drive strategies for the recruitment and retention of key personal and to foster an environment that supports the attraction and retention of a high-performing talented workforce.
  • Assign projects and priorities to reports based on Drilling Services and Wireline production requirements
  • Guide Electrical Tech Engineers on functions within the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Lab

VISION & LEADERSHIP

  • Demonstrates leadership, ethical behaviour and adherence to Weatherford standards at all times
  • Bachelors Degree from an Accredited University in Engineering (Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Technical science-based discipline preferred) or equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered
  • 5+ years of management/supervisory experience
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing environment

PREFERRED

  • Lean Manufacturing experience, or Lean Green Belt/Black Belt certification preferred
  • Oil & Gas manufacturing experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering processes/principles within a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of machine design, welding, testing and/or any special manufacturing processes related to the product line (conformal coating, grinding, elastomer manufacturing, painting, bonding, etc.)
  • Basic principles of electricity related to PCB assemblies
  • Strong team leadership skills, be a self-starter, innovative and able to work with little or no supervision
  • Ability to implement SPC
  • PC skills including AutoCAD, (Mechanical Desktop a plus)
  • MS Office suite software

  • Understand GD+T and dimensioning
