Engineering Manager, Hardware

As the Engineering Manager, for Auterion’s hardware team, you will be leading the electrical engineers of Auterion and support the creation of new best-in-class products. In this position you will work with a product-oriented team of engineers which focuses on the design, manufacturing and product lifecycle of the Skynode product line and Auterion developed hardware. With a focus on efficiency, you will deliver state of the art technology driving innovation across the drone industry. 

You will direct a cross functional team of software and electrical engineers to work hand in hand with our drone OEM partners, manufacturing partners and customer teams, solve challenging problems and deliver amazing experiences to our customers. 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead and manage a team of electrical engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure high levels of motivation, productivity, and collaboration.
  • Provide technical leadership in the development of complex SOM-based systems, leveraging Altium for PCB design and layout.
  • Develop and execute project plans, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Drive the development of new features, improvements, and innovations in drone technology to maintain a competitive edge in the market.
  • Advise engineers in architectural design decisions and help foster collaboration across different teams.
  • Coordinate with external partners and manufacturers to ensure seamless integration of drone systems.
  • Implement and maintain robust testing and quality assurance processes to guarantee the reliability, safety, and performance of drone systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers to solve complex technical challenges related to drone design, propulsion systems, sensors, and control systems.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including executives, project managers, and team members, providing regular updates on project status, challenges, and opportunities.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • At least 3 years of experience in leading engineering teams.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Altium Designer for PCB layout, schematic capture, and design validation.
  • Proven experience with Embedded Firmware development (experience with Embedded Linux is a plus) 
  • Experience with mass production of hardware, including managing the transition from prototype to large-scale manufacturing, working with contract manufacturers, and ensuring product quality and cost control.
  • Demonstrated track record of building and supporting effective engineering teams.
  • Ability to tackle ambiguity and define goals in an unstructured environment.
  • Ability to effectively translate business goals into engineering deliverables.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to keep a global team and stakeholders fully informed.
  • Experience working with the QGroundControl and PX4 ecosystem is a plus.
