Engineering Manager

What you will be doing

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Tech Team. We work cross-functionally, and you'll actively be involved in collaborating on both the design and implementation of systems that aid in the detection of financial risks. These systems require high-performance throughput for both real-time and batch processing, calling for scalability to be at the forefront of our engineering practices. 

As an Engineering Manager, you will 

• Take ownership for your team, being responsible for current team members growth and development, plus hiring and onboarding new team members 
• Create a positive environment where your team members thrive to deliver best outcomes and innovations
• Be a role model for your team, mentoring and coaching them, whilst having a learning mindset yourself, being open to new ideas and technologies
• Set the direction for your team and take accountability for tech decisions 
• Work alongside with your product counterpart, being accountable for delivery against the roadmap
• Collaborate, both within your team and across the tribe to ensure your team’s implementation meets industry standards
• Report to the Director of Engineering, and will work with the other Engineering Managers in the tribe.  Working as a group, you will own cross-team initiatives and improvements.

About you

As an Engineering Manager, you will have

• Experience of managing and growing high performing engineering teams
• Solid knowledge of engineering best practices, including architecture and testing
• In depth experience with a JVM-based language. 
• Experience working with/building data-intensive applications and with relational databases (Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle).
• Experience designing and building microservices
• Good communication and writing skills including experience writing technical documentation
• Have worked with product and commercial organisations. 

Nice to haves:

• Experience of AWS desirable, experience of Docker/Kubernetes good to have
• Experience of working in a startup/ scale up environment

Our Tech Stack

Our multi-cloud stack is organised around Java/Kotlin, Go, or Python for our backend languages and TypeScript/ES6+React for our frontend stack. Finally, we also use an event-sourcing model powered by Kafka for our communication bus and gRPC for our intra-service communication protocol.
