Engineering Designer - Water - Wastewater

Role description: 
Working under the direction of our Process Mechanical Engineering Leader, you will be the process designer on a range of water and wastewater design and construction projects including treatment facilities, pumping stations and storage facilities.  As a process designer, you will work in a design team environment on a range of projects involving facilities optimization, environmental assessments, preliminary design, detailed design and construction services, serving municipal and private sector clients.  You will have strong written and oral communications skills and be able to work in a team environment to deliver innovative solutions.  

Role accountabilities: 

We are seeking an Engineering Designer to join our Water Facilities Team in Markham. With a background in process mechanical or process engineering, the work will include preliminary and detailed design and construction services engineering for a range of water facilities projects including water and wastewater industrial and municipal treatment, pumping, and storage.

  • Support the process mechanical engineering team in the design of large municipal water and wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations
  • Conduct hydraulic design calculations, sizing of process equipment, preparation of PDRs and design briefs, preparation of specifications, process drawings and tenders documents
  • Position may also include commissioning of design projects, troubleshooting performance issues and support during construction services
  • Successful candidate will have a background in process evaluation as well as hydraulics 
  • Experiences with Biowin modeling will be considered as an asset.
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed designs in vertical infrastructure under the direction of the Project Manager
  • Preparing of BIM models for water/wastewater vertical projects and coordination with other disciplines
  • Check and verify design drawings to conform to design standards including MECP
  • Communication with Federal/Provincial Ministries, Municipalities, Conservation Agencies, etc. to identify and define permits and approvals requirements
  • Utility coordination
  • Develop design reports, construction cost estimates, construction documents and specifications
  • Assisting in the preparation of project schedules

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s and Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • 1 to 4 years of engineering design experience in vertical infrastructure project
  • E.I.T. designation 
  • Process modelling experience with modelling software (e.g. BioWin, PipeFlo) is an asset
  • Previous experience in BIM, AutoCAD, Civil3D, MicroStation is preferred
  • Knowledge of design standards and design applications
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Advanced verbal and written English communication skills
  • Proven ability to work in fast track environment and multi-project processing
  • Ability to multitask, problem solve, and work effectively under strict deadlines
  • Experience in water/wastewater process design would be an asset 
  • Be a team player with a positive attitude
