Reporting to the Director, Projects, the Engineering Manager’s key accountability is to build value and address and mitigate the risks associated with the engineering work scopes performed on the project by the owner’s team and Engineering Services providers. This includes scope development for engineering and construction contracts; proposal or bid evaluation and consultant selection; oversight of engineering consultants; engineering organizational change, and quality and risk management.
To be successful, we are looking for someone with a strong critical and conceptual thinking skills and the ability to prioritize activities to support the achievement of our project Key Performance Indicators. Being forward thinking with excellent organizational, planning, and decision-making skills while coordinating efforts of a technical team and multiple consultants will be necessary. We require someone familiar with project controls, scope management, risk and quality management, budgeting, and resource planning experience.
This role will be based in spectacular Vancouver, B.C., and will include approximately 20% travel to our various locations in Canada and the Americas as needed.
Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Progress the Engineering Safety in Design initiative on the project and champion strategies which promote sustainability, inclusion and diversity and measurably reduce hazards to people and the environment
- Develop the Scope of Work (SOW) for the Engineering Work Packages (EWP) and review Engineering Service Providers procedures, specifications and work
- Provide quality assurance across engineering service providers’ work and activities including execution plans, HAZOPs, risk registers, quality management systems and technical reports
- Lead value engineering and management of change process for engineering scope during all project phases from design through construction including Field Change Request and Request for Information processes
- Interpret technical requirements of the design documents to provide clear understanding and proper implementation of requirements
- Support pre-commissioning and turnover requirements preparing required test and acceptance procedures
- Monitor the consultants work progress and identify, report and handle budget and schedule trends
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent
- Eligible for registration or registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC); Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration
- A broad range of demonstrated experience in engineering management roles on major infrastructure, mining and/or process plant projects
- The ability to travel outside of Canada is required
