What You Will Contribute To Altos

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the contract Employee Relations Manager will be accountable for the overall resolution of workplace concerns and claims, proactively developing materials on performance management, manager-employee communications and healthy work environments. This role requires being a confident content facilitator and supporting mediated conversations to resolve lower stakes interpersonal conflicts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic guidance to leaders on sensitive employee relations matters including performance management, misconduct, interpersonal conflicts, leaves and accommodations
  • Conduct investigations into complex and nuanced employment matters - Partner with People Team members, Legal and other parties to adhere to investigative best practices, reaching the optimal outcomes for our organization and employees
  • Drive work force change initiatives in collaboration with stakeholders, ensuring that communication is effective, risk is mitigated, and that leaders and employees are supported through the process
  • Use HR analytics and data to identify trends, diagnose issues and make data-driven recommendations to the leadership team members and People team colleagues
  • Support internal projects and initiatives as needed
  • Act as an advocate for equitable and fair treatment - ensure our practices continue to align to our company’s core Value of Owning Our Inspiring Mission and the Altos Behaviors
  • Create content for manager and employee workshops that is relevant and addresses multiple learning styles 
  • Facilitate in-person and virtual workshops and discussions on topics related to managing within the law, creating a healthy work environment and performance management in a compelling and clear manner
  • A strong record of coaching others to build excellent leadership skills

Who You Are

As the Employee Relations Manager partner for Altos Labs you will be an integral part of the People team community providing expertise in preventing and resolving workplace issues that interfere with our positive workplace environment and culture. We believe in providing a workplace that is safe, treats employees with fairness and respect, and enables every employee to achieve their personal best.

In this position, you will use your experience and knowledge of applicable policies, regulations, and industry best practices to establish and follow appropriate protocol for employee relations issues and investigations. As a thought leader in this area of expertise, you will also have the opportunity to develop and deliver educational programs to create awareness and training and help create a workplace free from behavioral issues and distractions.

You should be an Employee Relations and HR professional with a passion for coaching employees and managers, and creating teams that work together and win together. You should be comfortable working with any level of employee or manager, have skills at reading a situation and navigating sensitivities and finding sound solutions to employee concerns. You are highly collaborative, truly valuing the contributions of your partners.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field
  • A minimum of 5 years of Employee Relations experience 
  • A track record of coaching to elevate leadership capability around performance improvement, fair and equitable practices and respect in the workplace policies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong emotional intelligence, and ability to build trust, rapport and influence across all levels of the company
  • Experience conducting and documenting investigations and advising on a wide range of sensitive and complex employee relations issues, including performance management, interpersonal manager/employee conflicts or complaints, leaves/accommodations, and behavioral/ conduct issues
  • Demonstrated experience executing on change management programs, with the ability to set priorities, stay focused, and manage time in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to organize and analyze data, and a passion for using data and insights to make a positive impact on the business
  • Strong understanding of U.S. and CA employment law, compliance, and ER best practices. 
  • Track record of effectively coaching leaders to action in sensitive or ambiguous situations
  • Strong experience in Google Apps and employee relations/compliance software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference of U.K. employment law
  • Certification and experiences with mediated employee conversations 
  • Experience supporting a biotechnology or tech organization
  • Project management experience
  • Legal degree preferred or equivalent military experience required

 

The salary range for Bay Area Hybrid

  • Employee Relations Manager: $65 - $90/hour
