Job Description: 

The Embedded Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing embedded systems to improve the efficiency and accuracy of on-field treatment to extend the shelf-life of fresh produce.  This individual will work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the timely delivery of project goals. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Able to develop and maintain 1-2 robust instruments for gas detection to support company objective under minimal guidance. 
  • Able to design, develop and maintain software and firmware for embedded systems using programming languages such as C++. 
  • Able to collaborate with hardware engineers to design and develop embedded systems that meet performance and reliability requirements. 
  • Able to conduct testing and validation of embedded systems to ensure that they meet design specifications.
  • Pressure test software and firmware and determine how to resolve issues with deployed devices such as cellular connectivity. 
  • Able to manage and operate the machine shop and electronics lab. 
  • Able to work with third party companies to design and fabricate electrical, mechanical, and firmware components for R&D projects and products. 
  • Able to design and maintain Hazel’s software documents via GitLab. 
  • Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, and standard operating procedures in support of problem analysis. 
  • Interface hardware and software components of devices with various wireless and serial communications protocols.
  • Be an effective communicator to share experimental results and provide inputs.
  • Participate in continuing education to further developmental capabilities.

 

Qualifications:  

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 3+ years of experience in embedded systems or IoT.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in embedded systems design and development, including hardware and firmware development.
  • Real-world experience in embedded systems deployment and troubleshooting. 
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with data acquisition and storage from cellular-linked devices. 
  • An understanding of how electrochemical sensors operate within a complex devise is preferred. 
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in embedded systems, such as C and assembly.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Occasionally moves items weighing up to 30 pounds across the office for various needs.

Benefits

Expected Salary Range: $105,000 to $130,000, plus the ability to participate in Hazel’s medical, dental, vision, 401k program (with Company match), generous paid time off, complimentary membership to the gym at the Company’s Chicago headquarters, a partial work-from-home stipend, and participation in the Company’s social events and happy hours.

The range above is a good faith estimate of the base salary we expect to offer for this position. The actual salary offered may differ based upon the skills, qualifications, and experience of any particular candidate.
