Electronics Technician works directly for or with one or several New Product Development product/project engineers or managers building and/or testing electronic components, sub-assemblies, and products, and developing assembly processes which lead to the final product. Works with new and existing products to improve cost, manufacturability, reliability, and performance. Technician will be responsible for connecting, performing, monitoring, trouble shooting, and documenting bench, thermal, and vibration tests for MLWD type electrical components for new development, sustaining, and failure analysis.
Maintains test equipment and facilities in good working order. Ensures test operations are performed safely and equipment is calibrated and in safe working condition. Able to perform other duties, projects, or assignments within the physical constraints of the job. Support the development and test ruggedized electronics for use in Weatherford’s downhole Drilling Services systems.
- Support the design, prototype build, and test of ruggedized electronics for use in Weatherford’s downhole Drilling Services systems.
- Discuss procedures and problems with engineering personnel and draw sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units.
- Assemble experimental circuitry or complete prototype model according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronic systems and components.
- Assemble, monitor, and document existing and new design qualification tests for temperature, vibration, and pressure testing with support of Electrical Engineer.
- Collaborate with other engineering staff to meet assigned project goals.
- Interface closely with drafting team to create part numbers, BOM management, and evaluate components for development of PCB layouts and documentation in Windchill
- Create and maintain relevant design documents (work instructions, test procedures, theories of operation, etc).
- Assist Manufacturing with the transition of prototype designs to production.
- Provide troubleshooting support and root cause analysis investigation and documentation.
- Assemble and solder required electrical components and wire harnesses.
- Place orders and manage inventory of electrical components and equipment required to set-up tests and build PCB’s.
- Understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies of Weatherford.

- Essential:
- 2-4 years’ experience working with electronics or equivalent applicable degree.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and analyze problems.
- Good interpersonal skills.

- Associates in Electrical Engineering or Electronics (2-year degree)

- Skills and Knowledge
- Familiar with handling and assembly of electrical/electronics, PCB’s, Multi-meters (DVM), and computer-based products with understanding of electrical circuit theory.
- Expertise in the assembly of complex and delicate electronic assemblies.
- Experience with prototype fabrication, assembly, testing and reporting.
- Able to use common electronics bench equipment and soldering techniques to assemble and test electronic sub-assemblies and/or test equipment.
- Working knowledge of basic inspection equipment and able to inspect electronic components and assemblies.
- Computer literate with experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Able to analyze and interpret test data.
- Able to read, review, and create good quality written reports in English, including digital photographs, illustrations, spreadsheets, and recorded/charted data from tests performed.
- Understands how to work safely within a variety of potentially dangerous areas.
- Ability to communicate and work well with others in a multi-disciplined environment.

- Preferred: Knowledgeable in the areas of low-power and high-temperature hardware design for the downhole environment
