CERN is hiring an

Electronics Engineer: RF interlocks (SY-RF-CS-2024-169-GRAP)

Geneva, Switzerland
Full-Time

Your responsibilities

In the future High-Luminosity LHC, crab cavities will be used to optimize the particle beam collisions in order to deliver the maximum luminosity to the experiments. Protecting the LHC machine from beam-induced damage due to a failure of the crab system will depend on close monitoring of the crab cavities' RF phase and amplitude with respect to the particle beam and the main LHC RF system. A rapid reaction time, within a few hundred microseconds, is required to activate the beam dump in case of anomaly. The new QUEST graduate will work with the RF and Machine Protection teams to specify, design, build and qualify the electronics for this critical protection system.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
