Essential functions and responsibilities:
1. The co-op will work with various managers and areas within our engineering department to gain exposure to the different aspects of engineering. The position will be responsible for completing assigned projects, building trust within team members, maintaining customer focus, as well as initiating and following up on actions taken (as a part of the rotational program within SIG).
2. Assists in the Signal Integrity Lab, running test, taking measurements, calibrating machines.
3. Assists with project implementation of new processes, tools, and characterizations; creates software scripts for simulation software tool automation.
4. Creates documentations or reports for customers and internal Samtec designers.
5. Good verbal and written communication skills, in English, with internal designers and customers.
6. Strong project management skills and problem-solving ability to keep track of multiple projects at a time and logging corresponding progress and findings.
7. Defining and solving problems via a systematic approach.
8. Prioritizing jobs and multitasking skills.
The student will be exposed to and expected to learn the basics in the many different technologies used at Samtec. These may include but are not limited to the following:
• Signal integrity fundamentals, (deep learning in a wide range of topics)
• Frequency and time domain testing
• Proper equipment use (VNA, TDR)
• Post-processing tools (Python, MATLAB, Excel, Internal Tools)
• FEM & 3D field solvers (ANSYS Electromagnetic Suite, ADS)
• Product knowledge, prints, reports, collateral
• Application engineering, customer engagement
• New product development.
The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to work with and take direction from senior engineers, be creative, passionate, and resourceful, while taking initiative to explore new solutions to the issues they are presented with.

Preferred education:
A student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, with experience in scripting and automation (Python, MATLAB), FEM & 3D field solvers, Electromagnetic theory, transmission line theory, s-parameters, circuit analysis and design, and hands on electrical lab experience (oscilloscopes, VNAs, TDRs).
