The EV Charger Technician is an inaugural role for Zum that is responsible for maintaining our current EV charger systems and establishing our EV charger expansion plan. This role will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and devising and implementing a strategy to scale EV charging operations to future locations.
This position will be located at our Oakland School Bus Yard.
Responsibilites:
- Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on EV charging stations to ensure they are functioning properly and efficiently
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to EV chargers, electrical wiring, and software to minimize downtime and maximize uptime
- Ensure minimal disruption to the charging schedule by promptly identifying and leading resolution of charger-related issues
- Provide on-site support for any issues related to EV charging stations, including software updates, running diagnostics, connectivity issues, and user interface troubleshooting during charging schedules of the fleet. This requires monitoring and onsite support outside of usual business hours
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, ensuring that all installations and repairs meet industry safety standards
- Conduct regular safety checks, document any potential hazards or concerns, and recommend fixes
- Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities, including work orders and parts used on each tasks
- Inform location leadership on major issues, recommend and implement solutions
- Analyze and interpret data and trends over time and advise leadership on proactive steps to reduce EV charger downtime and oversight
- Partner with EV program team to create proposals to leadership on how to scale EV charger operations nationally
- Develop processes and procedures on how to execute EV charger maintenance, repairs, and technical support
Requirements:
- Degree/diploma in electrical engineering, electronics, or a related field preferred
- Work experience on electrical systems, specifically in EVs, EV charging or automotive electrical systems is preferred
- Advanced understanding of electrical systems, circuits, and components
- Proficient in using diagnostic tools and equipment
- Proficient at interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work autonomously, with limited supervision
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three or more years work experience on electrical systems, specifically in EVs, EV charging or automotive electrical systems is preferred.
- Analyze and interpret data and trends over time.
- Ability to work as part of a team developing proposals for leadership.
- Certification as an Electrician or equivalent (e.g., Journeyman Electrician)
- EVITP (Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program) certification
The targeted base salary range for this role is listed in the compensation section below. Actual salary may be above or below this range based on factors such as location, skills, and relevant experience. In addition, this position may include additional compensation in the form of bonus, equity, or commissions.
