About the Team: 

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team is responsible for risk management and compliance to support frontline operations, manufacturing processes and test and launch campaigns. We develop programs, processes, controls, and other solutions aimed at empowering all Relativity employees to drive our safety culture and prevent injuries in the workplace, while maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The EHS team leads efforts in creating an environment that fosters safety and operational excellence for our employees at Relativity Space.  We are looking for best in class EHS professionals who are looking for a fresh experience to hone their craft and are excited at the prospect of shaping the future of spaceflight. 

 About the Role:  

The EHS Manager, Launch and Recovery Operations, will lead our department's efforts alongside our world-class launch team at Cape Canaveral Space Force Base, Launch Complex 16. We seek a dedicated self-starter who thrives in ambiguity while tackling audacious goals. This individual will embody a "boots on the ground" mindset, with proven experience developing scalable EHS programs for sites or companies, and exhibit strong ownership over day-to-day EHS operations, initiatives, and programs. The EHS Manager will partner with Cape launch, infrastructure, and recovery site stakeholders to develop and implement a comprehensive compliance strategy, further enhancing our world-class safety culture. This role includes overseeing EHS personnel at our Cape facilities. Responsibilities include: 

  • Developing policies, programs, and guidance aligned with corporate objectives to address launch and recovery-site hazards. 
  • Establishing key partnerships with launch and recovery personnel to support EHS programs and initiatives. 
  • Creating EHS programs that ensure successful launch and recovery operations for our Terran R program. 
  • Collaborating with Relativity environmental engineering teams to develop and execute compliance requirements related to environmental inspections, air emissions, hazardous waste, and industrial wastewater discharges. 
  • Working closely with Cape leadership to strengthen our world-class safety culture. 
  • Collaborating with engineers to design safe systems for novel launch and recovery processes. 
  • Facilitating and providing EHS training, including fall protection, marine operations, confined space, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO). 
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal safety regulations such as OSHA and AFSPCMAN 91-710. 
  • Leading root cause investigations for incidents and injuries. 
  • Coaching and mentoring employees on safe work practices and policies. 
  • Providing EHS oversight for construction contractors. 
  • Interfacing with and supporting compliance program initiatives with NASA and other regulatory organizations. 

About You: 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental sciences, occupational health and safety, or another related technical discipline. 
  • 8+ years of EHS experience in launch operations, rocket recovery operations, marine operations, off-shore services, oil and gas, construction, chemical production, or a related industry. 
  • Proven proficiency in health and safety topics including but not limited to: marine and off-shore operations, launch and recovery operations, confined spaces, fall prevention/protection, pressure safety systems, critical lift operations, chemical management, and ordnance management. 
  • 3+ years of experience as a people manager. 
  • Current CSP, CIH, CES, CEP, or other professional environmental certification. 

Nice to Have but Not Required: 

  • Master's degree in public health, engineering, occupational health and safety, or other related degree program. 
  • Proficient project manager with a proven ability to manage and successfully execute multiple projects concurrently. 
  • Experience in Jira, Confluence, Tableau, Power BI, and GitHub. 

 

Successful candidates must clear a background check administered by the US government to obtain clearance for on-site work at our government partner location in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
