Here’s what you’d do:

The EHS Manager is responsible to provide senior-level technical expertise and/or oversight of company efforts related to achieving safety and health excellence including providing day to day EHS support to branch leadership and operating teams within designated Region including Construction and Development. Support includes coaching, teaching, and training field personnel on safe operating behaviors, development of regional strategies for effective administration of safety and health programs and driving management efforts for regions to prevent work-related injuries and illnesses, reduce vehicle accidents, and comply with OSHA, EPA, and FMCSA/DOT standards. 

You’d be responsible for:

  • Serve as subject matter expert on strategies, programs, and procedures for ensuring compliance with one or more OSHA standards. Provide senior-level technical expertise and/or oversight of company efforts related to achieving safety and health excellence. 
    • Review, analyze and understand OSHA standards at an advanced level. 
    • Recommend management strategies, and technical programs and procedures for complying with one or more OSHA standards.
    • Modify recommended strategies, programs, and procedures to reflect operational differences between BrightView divisions.
    • Determine and drive implementation plans for OSHA, EPA, and DOT compliance. 
    • Mentor individual safety team members in area(s) of expertise. 
    • Provide leadership and direction related to achieving the BrightView Safety Commitment   
  • Develop region, market, and location management strategies for effective administration of safety and health programs.
    • Develop and maintain complete understanding of safety & health compliance programs, training materials and other information contained on the Safety & Health Resources website.
    • Develop effective safety and health program implementation strategies for region management. Proactively direct and coach assigned region on these implementation strategies as well as other information contained on the Safety & Health Resources website. 
    • Respond to inquiries from assigned region regarding interpretation and execution of programs, training and other information contained on the Safety & Health Resources website. Develop and recommend improved solutions to safety issues and concerns. 
  • Drive efforts to prevent work-related injuries and illnesses, reduce vehicle accidents, and comply with OSHA, EPA, and FMCSA/DOT standards. 
    • Conduct, coordinate and review inspections of assigned facilities to identify potential OSHA, EPA, and DOT compliance issues.
    • Assess group/location implementation of BrightView requirements as contained on the Safety & Health Resources website. 
    • Assist locations with the development of corrective action plans that address compliance or management system/practice issues. 
    • Monitor and hold management accountable for completion of corrective action plans developed by the region/branch to address compliance or management practice issues.
    • Review accident/incident investigations and OSHA recordkeeping practices.
    • Correctly classify workplace incidents in accordance with OSHA recordkeeping standards. 
    • Train region and branch management team regarding safety policies and procedures.
    • Serve as a resource to Region SVP, VPGM and Branch Managers, and EHS Specialists. 
    • Monitor branch execution of monthly safety self-assessments  
    • Conduct periodic safety audits and observations. 
  • Branch Safety Leader (BSL) Program
    • Proactively coach and train Branch Safety Leaders regarding BSL program and S&H policies and procedures
    • Calculate quarterly bonus for BSL according to BSL SOP (where applicable)
  • Communication:
    • Establish and maintain an effective communication system to ensure relevant safety and health information is provided to region and branch management teams on a timely basis.
    • Communicate effectively to the region and branch management teams the consequences of non-compliance.
    • Assist with implementation of safety & health procedures and programs consistent with OSHA regulatory requirements and corporate policies. 
    • Effectively communicate any significant region/branch specific problems or issues to the Region SVP and VP-EHS
    • Provide weekly activities summary to VP-EHS and Region SVPs
    • Provide branch visit recaps to Branch Manager, VPGM, and SVP, store copy on network drive
  • All Other Duties – Perform all other duties as assigned including carrying out responsibilities, performing duties, using skills, and working in conditions necessary to perform all assigned tasks. Tasks may include items such as, but not limited to, leading Subject Matter Expert (SME) Teams, assigned projects or other duties or initiatives as directed.

  1. OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR)
  2. OSHA Days Away Restricted and Transfer Cases (DART)
  3. One Page Root Cause Analysis Summary Page
  4. Branch Visit Recap Completion
  5. Weekly Visit Summary Completion
  6. FMCSA/DOT Driver Qualification Files and Compliance
  7. Reduction of At-Fault Auto incidents
  8. Reduction in late claims reporting
  9. Training (e.g., BrightPath) compliance
  10. eTake2 compliance

 

You might be a good fit if you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field:  Occupational Safety, Engineering, Behavior Safety, Industrial Hygiene plus 5 years of safety experience or High School/GED diploma with 10 years full time safety experience. Two years of BrightView operations experience may be considered the equivalent of one-year full time safety experience. 
  • CSP, ASP, OHST, or CHST credential preferred.
  • OSHA Outreach Trainer (1910 or 1926), preferred
  • Completion of OSHA 30 (1910 or 1926)
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and standards (completion of OSHA 510 and 511)
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations (preferred)
  • Ability to recognized compliance and risk issues and situations.
  • Knowledge of safety and health management systems and practices
  • Prior experience in recommending, developing, and implementing compliance strategies and plans
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
