About the organization:
- Transportation System:
The Transportation Systems team develops processes for accurate and fast delivery, working closely with large freight and transportation companies to ensure every
shipment gets to the right place. The role of Coupang's Transportation Systems engineers is to respond to rapidly changing business and achieve innovation by
taking the big picture and the company's long-term goals one step further. Expansion and growth are important business goals for Transportation Systems, with the
opportunity to enter new markets and leave a lasting mark.
- Fulfillment System:
The Fulfillment System team integrates and manages the overall process of the logistics center and establishes processes to increase the efficiency of the logistics
center, including warehousing, display, inventory, picking, and shipping. In addition, by introducing the latest logistics processes and establishing work automation, we
aim to provide fast and accurate services to customers, provide specialized services from the user's perspective, and apply various new technologies to establish new
processes.
- Supply Chain Management (SCM):
The SCM team is responsible for the optimization of a product's sales process starting from sourcing, production, logistics, and delivery. SCM is a broad term encompassing the management of demand planning, sourcing, production, inventory management, and logistics. It is a complex process that requires specialized software and collaboration between business agents, fulfilment centers, and delivery partners. The SCM team integrates and manages the overall process end to end.
Coupang India Tech Center
The India office is a versatile tech center aimed at addressing complex requirements in Coupang's system. We also operate offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Seattle, and Mountain View, each evolving from small beginnings to house numerous teams across various domains. In our TW engineering division, we are establishing the first team in India. Initially, we plan to hire around 10 engineers, forming three teams: SCM, FDS, and a third team within FTS. Our office also hosts several other tech teams. Like many global companies, we use tools like Zoom and Slack for teamwork. A primary challenge in a geographically distributed team is the time zone difference, especially since our business primarily operates in Korea and Taiwan time zones. Good thing for India is the time difference is only 3.5hrs for Korea and 2.5hrs for Taiwan which enables us to have a very healthy overlap of working hours.
The Role
This Engineering team owns end-to-end Taiwan Coupang core services. Since the TW business is growing at a rapid clip, we want to scale the team and extend our scope,
this team owns several domains now. As senior staff engineer, as a tech lead and architect, you will be working with many domain engineering teams to build the
ownership on systems, build the tools, process and re-platform the systems to make core systems to be more flexible to support global business and engineering work to
be more efficient in different regions.
As a Senior engineer, you will need to identify the underlying risks in our system and establish strategy and roadmap for these focus areas and lead the execution with
talented engineers to achieve the milestones. It will include resilience improvement, building necessary tools, monitoring, and better testing environments for
engineering efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Lead and drive architecture design of TW FTS/SCM systems for scale, future extensibility, and reliability
- Envision and drive alignment with stakeholders of the appropriate roadmap and future direction of technology for TW FTS/SCM systems
- Navigate and alleviate technical obstacles and blockers at the organizational level
- Decompose complex problems into simple, straightforward solutions, providing mechanisms for the teams to prioritize ruthlessly and “move with urgency.”
- Write code when necessary to lead by example and help with high priority projects
- Proactively identify opportunities in both business and technology
- Review, advise, and carry out the adoption of new technology (both open source and commercial) that are useful in achieving business objectives
- Recruit and develop world-class engineering talent
- Lead high priority and complex OKR as an owner and make a business impact.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor/Master/PhD in Computer Science or Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of industry experience of increasing responsibility leading engineering teams
- 5+ years of experience in software development in large distributed systems, web services and Java
- Demonstrated experience in creating a vision, influencing cross-functionally and driving a technology organization to meet ambitious goals
- Strong delivering software products competency in an environment that rapidly changing requirements with appropriate trade-off
- Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working closely with global distributed teams
Preferred
- 8+ years of experience in software development with hands-on architectural experience in delivering innovative engineering excellence and system
availability (e.g., SRE)
- Experience working in tier-0 systems
