Position: Distribution Centre Operations Supervisor
  
Job Overview:
 
This position achieves the Genuine Merchant Strategy by assisting the Operations Manager in the efficient and effective supervision of the overall performance and functioning of a warehouse shift or function.  This role assists in leading, managing, coaching and training team members to achieve the highest level of productivity, customer service, adherence to standard operating procedures and all other company procedures including Food Safety and Health and Safety.  The DC Operations Supervisor is responsible for all warehouse activities.
 
Accountabilities:
Leadership and People Management
  • Demonstrates Genuine Leadership and People Management by:
  • Upholding and modelling the company’s values of Honesty, Trustworthiness and Mutual Respect in all actions and behaviours
  • Assist Operations Manager in motivating and developing team members and by providing regular feedback and completion of performance appraisals
  • Ensures that team members understand and comply with company standards, policies and procedures including health and safety, loss prevention, food safety and human resource policies i.e. Uniform/dress code
  • Coaches, trains and disciplines team members to maintain the highest level of personal and team productivity by ensuring strong technical skills and on-going product knowledge
  • Conducts team member 5-minute huddles to ensure strong communication on company initiatives, goals and objectives
  • Provides assistance to team members in completing warehouse activities as required
Safety, Equipment, Sanitation, Security
Maintain a clean, neat and orderly Warehouse:
  • Ensuring all team members adhere to food safety standards
  • Ensuring that all team members adhere to all health and workplace safety standards
  • Ensuring that all team members adhere to proper sanitization and cleaning procedures
  • Assist in maintaining warehouse security
  • Ensure the efficient and safe operation of
  • Implementing Warehouse Initiatives
  • Supports DC Manager in implementing of all Warehouse initiatives that support the Genuine Merchant Strategy
Operations
  • Supervise and direct warehouse floor operations
  • Determines daily operational plan, sets priorities and assigns employees as required. Request additional resources if required
  • Proactively investigate and resolves operational issues as they develop
  • Responsible to ensure quality standards are met by visually auditing product, analyzing computer data and reviewing paperwork
  • Mentor and provide support to drive productivity
  • Responsible for creating a work environment that is inclusive of diversity, free of discrimination and free of conflict
  • Ensure that the workplace is safe and meets all legislative requirements. Has responsibility for housekeeping and ensuring only trained employees operate material handling equipment
  • Ensuring accuracy in all inventories, shipping, receiving, picking, putaway and replenishment procedures.
  • Identify and investigate inventory discrepancies.
  • Ensure Optimal Use of Space.
  • Train team members in duties and policies.
  • Resolve work related problems
  • Prepare and submit reports
  • Establish work schedules and procedures
  • Ensure smooth operation of computer, workstation and machinery
  • Conduct performance reviews
  • Coordinate actives with other work units or departments
  • Arrange for maintenance and repair work
  • Responsible for the allocation and proper use of equipment such as RF devices
  • Hands on when required
Logistics
  • Oversee operational logistics of the DC operations as needed (Shipping, Receiving)
  • Cubing optimization and route optimization
  • Ensure leading the transportation achieve and maintain the quality standard, deliver the right products to the right customers at the right time
  • Invoice review
  • Dispatch shipments and close loads in the system as needed
Implementing Polices and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Responsible to implement and train team members on all policies and procedures including:
    • Standard Operating Procedures
    • WHMIS
    • Loss Prevention
    • Human Resource Policies
    • LEAN tools
  • Ensure that all Operations Support initiatives are implemented
  • Keeping abreast of industry trends
  • Special projects as assigned by the General Manager
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
  • Post secondary education and a minimum of 2 years of distribution experience
  • Proven leadership skills and/or leadership training
  • Good understanding of warehouse operations within a distribution setting
  • Appropriate knowledge of maintenance and care of equipment, materials and supplies
  • Knowledge of Employment Standards, WHIMIS, Food Safety and Loss Prevention practises
  • Communication – able to verbally communicate with customers and staff to understand what is wanted and expected from them.  Strong organization and tactical planning skills
  • Creativity – need to have enthusiasm and ability to change on the fly
  • Strong initiative ability, excellent work ethic and a sense of urgency
  • Ability to work in a high paced time constraint environment
  • Strong sense of ownership, drive and enthusiasm
  • Strong leadership, motivation and mentoring skills
  • Flexibility – Ability to adapt quickly to new situations, as well as new and changing processes, programs and services
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft office systems (word/excel/outlook)
  • Strong customer service skills
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in a standard warehouse environment with participation in meetings at the office
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities with regular deadlines
  • Travel to various Warehouse locations if required
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays as business needs
