Position Title: Disease Intervention Specialist
Location: Rhode Island Department of Health Hybrid (Providence, RI) - office two days per week
Position End Date: 6/30/2025
Salary: $65,900


Overview:

The CDC Foundation is seeking a Disease Intervention Specialist assigned to the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH). This position will be in the Center for Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology (CAIDE), within the Division of Emergency Preparedness and Infectious Disease (EPID). This position will be responsible for conducting complex case investigation for the purpose of detection, prevention, and control of infectious diseases. These case investigations will involve interviewing and counseling of patients, follow-up, and contact tracing when appropriate.


Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in a field related to public health
· At least two years of experience in a public health setting
· Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Word, and PowerPoint
· A thorough knowledge of the principles, procedures, methods and techniques involved in the prevention and control of infectious diseases.
· A working knowledge of the pertinent statutes and regulations relating to reportable diseases in Rhode Island
· A working knowledge of the methods and procedures involved in public health investigations
· The ability to perform the more difficult and complex epidemiological investigations.
· The ability to communicate and interact tactfully, effectively and with confidence with healthcare professionals, personnel of other agencies, and the public
· Strong written and oral communication skills
· Ability to multi-task, prioritize a large caseload, and pay attention to detail
· Extensive experience collaborating with other teams/groups
· Ability to work in a professional team environment, as well as independently
· Bilingual individuals who are fluent in Spanish preferred


Responsibilities:

· Interviewing individuals using a standardized case report form
· Completing surveillance case report forms accurately and completely
· Entering the data into the electronic surveillance system accurately and completely
· Counseling clients with standardize guidance and elevating to a nurse for more complex clinical cases.
· Participating in outbreak investigations.
· Maintaining data and patient information in compliance with confidentiality policies.
· Providing support and assistance to community, public and private agencies in the prevention, identification, and treatment of individuals at risk.
· Consulting and liaising with assigned epidemiologist and nurse on outbreak mitigation issues.
· Informing individuals, groups, and agencies as to the regulations and statutes relative to infectious
· Supporting coordination of clinic activities on an as needed basis.

This role is involved in a dynamic public health program and may occasionally be required to work outside of normal business hours to respond to outbreaks and emergencies. In addition, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve. Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and the Rhode Island Department of Health, in order to best support the State of Rhode Island in their public health programming.
