About the role

As the Director of Software Development at Syndio, you will be pivotal in shaping the technical strategy, guiding software development, and ensuring the quality of our customer-facing product portfolio. You will provide leadership that drives innovation and engineering excellence, working closely with peers across technology, product, and the broader Syndio organization to accelerate our business goals.

Leading a diverse team of software development managers and engineers, you will foster a high-velocity engineering culture, balancing timely delivery with top-notch quality to support our business objectives. As a member of the technology leadership team, you will identify and champion strategic initiatives with far-reaching impacts across Syndio, advancing our vision.

Reporting directly to the SVP of Software Development, you will collaborate with engineering squads, the product team, and senior leadership to deliver impactful features and applications, addressing both customer and industry challenges.

  • Develop, drive and execute a long term vision and strategy for Syndio’s platform
  • Manage the complete software development lifecycle in an Agile environment, from definition to testing of new features to support the application teams to deliver business value quickly
  • Collaborate across product, engineering, and data science teams to understand and champion technical priorities 
  • Take responsibility for all aspects of software development, including operational metrics and support for your team's software
  • Define, manage, and improve software and product development processes, collaborating closely with high-performance engineers
  • Lead day-to-day activities of the engineering team, ensuring project plans and commitments are met
  • Architect and develop innovative technical designs aligned with product line goals
  • Coach and mentor high-performing engineering managers and engineers, fostering their growth, knowledge, and ability to deliver, while promoting a high-growth and inclusive culture
  • Collaborate with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to create customer-delighting software and foster innovation
  • Cultivate a culture of metrics-driven quality, efficient processes, and transparency
About you
  • 2+ years of managing managers
  • 3+ years experience of managing teams of software developers as a front line manager
  • 10+ years of experience developing software, preferably in backend roles
  • Cloud experience required, GCP preferred. ​​Proficiency in managing service-based architectures and infrastructure as code
  • History of strong programming skills, (We use  Python and Go)
  • Professional experience and capability with API design
  • Experience developing, deploying and optimizing distributed systems 
  • Track record of building healthy, inclusive, high performing engineering teams
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks and deliver projects on schedule
  • Experience managing resources in a dynamic environment

  • 💰 Competitive Compensation. For this role our salary is targeted at CAD $178,000 - $230,000 per year. Final offer amounts are determined by factors such as experience and expertise.

Below you'll find an outline of the interview plan for our Director of Software Development position. Please note that this is what we expect the process to look like; we may ask you for supplemental information or require an additional step before making a final decision.

  • 30 min interview with a member of our Talent Team
  • 45 minute zoom interview with the Hiring Manager
  • Two video interviews with Technical Leadership - 1.5 hours
  • Three video interviews with Director of Platform, VP Product & Engineering Manager - 2 hours
  • Final meet & greet with future direct reports - 30 minutes
