Director, Scientific Computing

We are seeking a talented individual to lead our Bioinformatics and Data Science Team as a Director of Scientific Computing at Twist Bioscience.  In this role you will lead an interdisciplinary team responsible for building bioinformatic research tools, predictive internal process models and analytics dashboards.  This role ultimately will have a significant impact towards enabling Twist to develop across many product lines and will be critical to the development and improvement across a wide range of best-in-class products and processes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing a vision and roadmap for scientific computing at Twist Bioscience.
  • Build and maintain a high-performing team and grow individual contributors in the team which consist of members with various technical backgrounds.
  • Serve as a scientific mentor to help guide work in an efficient, effective and scientifically sound manner
  • Guide team members on prioritization and design of bioinformatic pipelines, data pipelines and data analysis campaigns
  • Understanding and prioritizing business needs by balancing short-term and long-term initiatives.
  • Engage and build relationships with clients and stakeholders across the organization to help guide decision making
  • Present your work and progress to VP/C-level executives

 

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Knowledge and experience with SQL, Python, ML model development and deployment and data visualization tools like Tableau
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical decisions with a variety of stakeholders.
  • A positive attitude and ability to find a solution to open-ended problems that can satisfy stakeholders needs.
  • The ability to understand qualitative requests and guide team-members to create quantitative analyses.
  • Experience and understanding of a modern cloud data infrastructure with tools like dbt, Databricks and Snowflake.
  • Understanding of bioinformatic analyses based around NGS data analysis.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D./M.S. in a scientific discipline with significant experience involved with data and bioinformatics in an in industrial setting
  • An advanced degree Master's or Ph.D. with at least 10 years of industrial bioinformatics experience and 3 years of management experience.
  • Experience analyzing and handling Next Generation Sequencing data.
  • Experience managing and successfully performing in a molecular biology tools company.
  • Demonstrated performance developing and maintaining high-performing teams
The base cash compensation for this California-based role is below. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package. Final compensation amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location and may vary from the amount listed above. Compensation may be different in other locations.
San Francisco Bay Area Pay Range
$204,000$253,270 USD
