We are looking for a Director of People and Talent to provide strategic leadership to a comprehensive suite of Human Resources disciplines, including recruitment, compensation, labour relations, performance management, talent management and succession planning. These disciplines are critical in building and supporting a vibrant workforce that advances the organization's strategic priorities and successful execution of events. This person will be responsible for identifying opportunities for innovation and addressing risk and obstacles; developing and delivering the overall HR strategy, policies, and initiatives; providing advice and guidance to the ELT, and informing planning at all levels. This Director ensures a professional HR team which is responsive to an evolving organization and the challenges of events as well as plays a key role in attracting, developing, and retaining top talent, while fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and advances an HR vision, strategies and initiatives that align with the organization's strategic plan, overall objectives and which promotes employee well-being, an inclusive culture, and results in skilled staff capable of meeting job requirements. Works collaboratively with management and Executive on a range of plans, projects and initiatives, informing innovation, addressing risk, and facilitating decisions and actions from an HR perspective.
  • Ensures progressive, timely and efficient recruitment and selection processes, capitalizing on technology, to attract and retain top talent across all levels and functions, including staffing for events, when significant numbers of staff are engaged, many for a single day. Long-term staffing plans, taking into account future attrition and labour market volatility, will address obstacles in facilitating employee movement from other levels of government and competing for talent across Ontario.
  • Strategically aligns policy development, performance management and staff development to cultivate a learning culture, including articulated learning paths, resulting in a significant pool of staff for future promotion. Modernizes employee onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring a smooth and positive experience for all employees, facilitating rehiring when and as required.
  • Develops and implements compensation and benefits programs and policies to attract and retain high-performing employees.
  • Ensures compliance with all labor laws, regulations, and internal policies, and positions the organization to anticipate and resolve issues and challenges before they are formalized. Recognizing the organization's unique business requirements, advocates and informs legislative exemptions, where required.
  • Provides high level guidance and support to Executive on often complex HR-related matters, requiring sophisticated and immediate actions and communications. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)CHRL and CHRP designation
  • Proven experience in a senior HR leadership role, with a minimum of 3-5 years in HR management
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HR principles and practices, labor laws, and regulations
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Experience in talent acquisition and retention strategies, including recruitment, onboarding, and performance management
  • Solid understanding of compensation and benefits programs and their impact on employee engagement and retention
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a strategic mindset
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and maintain a high level of professionalism
