Skyscanner is hiring a

Director of Reward

Edinburgh, United Kingdom

The role

We are seeking a Director of Reward to lead global Compensation & Benefits at Skyscanner, responsible for the delivery of a sustainable compensation & benefits proposition that not only maintains but furthers Skyscanner’s ability to attract, retain, and reward best-in-class talent.

This role combines both strategic leadership with hands-on delivery and we are looking for someone who is adept at moving between the ‘big picture’ thinking and detailed analysis.

Leading a team of 4 Reward Managers, this individual will enhance Skyscanner’s reward offering, taking us on a journey that drives greater flexibility and transparency to meet the needs of our people and the business.

They will support the team to develop their strategic thinking on how reward connects with over-arching business strategy, helping to tell the story of reward to our people and join the dots across the various strands in a way that helps us to deliver on our long-term objectives within the People Plan.

In addition, this individual will support senior leaders in the business to ensure any complex cases are managed appropriately.

As a senior member of the People team, they will take a leadership role in working closely with colleagues across the People Partnering and Talent Acquisition teams (as well as other business stakeholders) to ensure a cohesive and coherent approach to reward.

This role requires exceptional collaboration, and an ability to hear the business needs and build trusted relationships and consensus with colleagues at all levels. Skyscanner is a data-driven organisation, and the successful candidate will be comfortable with using this (both qualitative and quantitative) to support decisions and measure results.

Often, the problem spaces are large and the business objectives complex and ambiguously scoped, so we are looking for individuals who are comfortable navigating this and delivering high-quality outcomes. Skyscanner’s leaders are collaborators, not empire-builders, and they will adapt frequently to optimise for the right company result.

Skyscanner combines strong legacy with an entrepreneurial edge to drive ambitious growth goals. As a brand with a big role to play, both for travellers and our partners, we have the opportunity to legitimately challenge and disrupt the sector and help travellers explore the world effortlessly for generations to come.

Key responsibilities

  • Designing and managing competitive and sustainable compensation structures and benefits packages aligned with company objectives.
  • Overseeing the design and management of employee benefits programmes, including health, retirement, wellness, and other additional benefits.
  • Design and management of the recognition programmes covering our global business.
  • Continuously coaching and developing a high-performing team of total rewards professionals.
  • Working closely with People Partners, Talent Acquisition teams, and other business stakeholders on all aspects of reward.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve existing programmes and processes.
  • Being the key point of contact for compensation and benefits topics as we continue to grow and hire worldwide.
  • Using data and analytics to track the effectiveness of rewards programmes and provide insights.

 Skills and experience

  • Experience of leading compensation and benefits activities within a global company, analysing data, and building ranges.
  • Understanding and awareness of compensation and benefits within mature technology companies.
  • An adaptable and proactive approach that supports creative thinking and problem solving.
  • Highly data-driven, and able to use this to provide actionable insights and recommendations that drive the strategy forward.
  • A strategic approach with the ability to influence decision making at senior levels of an organisation.
  • Experience of leading a team with a coaching-approach to support their development into well-rounded reward experts.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both when engaging with colleagues within and outside of the People team, and an ability to communicate a reward strategy that connects with wider company strategic objectives.
  • A passion for travel!
