As ActiveCampaign continues to grow and expand its offerings, the Revenue Accounting team plays a critical role in managing the complexities of revenue accounting, systems and operations. Reporting to the VP, Global Controller, this role will take the lead on shaping the strategy of the revenue accounting function, navigate new business initiatives and their corresponding revenue recognition and billing implications, manage our existing revenue and accounts receivable team, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our growing accounting function. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, a great communicator, and enjoys collaborating with people with a diverse set of talents in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
What your day could consist of:
- Lead and oversee the revenue accounting function, including serving as the primary internal expert with regards to quote-to-cash processes, revenue systems, and accounts receivable
- Manage the month-end revenue accounting close by reviewing and analyzing revenue and deferred revenue, conducting fluctuation analyses, and related disclosures
- Ensure revenue accounting’s roadmap is aligned with the company’s overall strategic objectives and support growth plans
- Collaborate with sales, billing support, engineering and business intelligence teams around enhancements to our revenue platform and contract management systems, to ensure GAAP compliance.
- Review non-standard contracts for revenue accounting implications (e.g., renewals, contract modifications, and variable consideration)
- Assist FP&A in the monthly revenue modeling and forecasting procedures
- Serve as a subject matter expert and provide guidance as we launch product offerings and expand our customer base
- Build, develop, and actively manage relationships with external payments partners to ensure proper capture of transactions in the revenue cycle
- Liaison with sales, legal, billing, sales ops, and product teams to ensure alignment on billing and revenue recognition matters
- Work closely with external auditors to drive timely accounting conclusions for revenue recognition. Act as a primary point of contact throughout the audit process for external/internal auditors and consultants on technical revenue matters
- Lead and mentor a team of revenue accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture and a continuous improvement mindset
What is needed:
- Demonstrated success in leading revenue accounting functions through rapid growth and expanding product offerings, with a proven ability to develop and execute effective strategies
- At least 8 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the e-commerce or SaaS industries
- Strong leadership and team management skills with a proven track record of building high-performing teams
- Expertise in subscription billing processes, systems, invoicing, and collections strategies.
- In-depth knowledge of revenue recognition standards (ASC 606)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, and adhere to tight deadlines
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business process transformation
- Experience with Zuora Suite (Billing and Revenue) and Sage Intacct (or comparable ERP system) is preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA are required
- A combination of Big 4 public accounting and industry experience preferred
