What you will do:
The Director of Purchasing is responsible for developing and implementing procurement strategies to acquire goods and services to enable Electra’s operations. This role involves managing a team of purchasing professionals, negotiating contracts, ensuring supplier performance, and maintaining cost-effective procurement practices while ensuring compliance with company policies, quality and safety guidelines, financial and business ethics policies, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with the company's goals and objectives
- Analyze market trends and conditions to anticipate procurement needs, opportunities and risks
- Lead and mentor the purchasing team, providing guidance, training, and support
- Manage departmental performance, including setting goals, conducting performance reviews, and addressing any issues
- Identify, evaluate, establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors
- Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers to achieve optimal value and conditions
- Monitor supplier performance and ensure adherence to contract terms and quality standards
- Oversee the purchasing process, including requisition, order placement, and inventory management
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods and services while managing costs
- Create, implement and enforce procurement policies, procedures, and best practices
- Develop and manage the purchasing budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to financial targets
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and company policies related to procurement
- Assess and mitigate risks associated with suppliers, contracts, and procurement processes
- Prepare and present reports on procurement activities, performance metrics, and cost savings
- Engage in analysis of procurement data and provide insights to support decision-making and strategic planning
- Collaborate with internal departments, such as finance, operations, and logistics, to ensure procurement needs are met and aligned with overall business objectives
- Read, understand, and comply with all workplace health and safety policies, safe work practices, and company policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager
What we need you to bring to the team:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field.
- At least 7-10 years of experience in procurement or purchasing, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial or leadership role
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Leadership ability, including influencing without authority
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, exhibit a sense of urgency, and maintain equilibrium in a fast-moving and changing startup environment
- Proficiency with, or ability to quickly learn, Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint

Compensation:
- The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $160,000-$205,000 annually and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
