What’s it all about?
We are looking for a Director of Design to help us transform our product into something that will impact millions of learners’ lives. Blending our proven Tutor-led interventions with the latest in AI technology, we are on a journey to creating a Tutor-powered learning hub that engages learners, parents and teachers alike.
You’ll report to our Chief Product Officer, Geoff Stead, and be actively contributing to and shaping the product and brand vision. You’ll work alongside the Director of Engineering, Leo Proietti and the Director of Product, Harriet Patterson to bring that product vision to life.
You will lead an established, multi-disciplinary team of 10 designers to deliver this product and brand strategy while elevating the role and value of design across the business.

The Day to Day
- Lead our team of Product and Brand Designers. You will be accountable for the team’s performance and health and responsible for hiring and growth.
- Establish and maintain principles, processes and standards that enable efficient and scalable design operations.
- Drive a user-centric design approach, advocating for user needs and ensuring that product designs are accessible, inclusive, and engaging for a diverse audience.
- Co-define the long-term product vision and strategy as a peer to other Product and Engineering directors and senior leaders.
- Collaborate with marketing and sales leaders to ensure our brand and messaging align with our customers’ needs.
- Engage with senior leadership as design representative to align around the design vision and contribute meaningfully to strategic decisions.
- Support design leads in shaping strategy and bringing to life the product vision, helping their teams do their best work.
Requirements
Who will you be?
- Experienced leader of embedded teams: Experience leading multidisciplinary teams of designers embedded into Product and Engineering functions
- Passionate about users, with a track record of collaborating with Product & Engineering teams to shape, and build tools that matter to users and can power a business.
- An engaging storyteller with the ability to influence stakeholders and leadership and get the whole company excited about our design vision.
- Pragmatic. We need your help to balance future discovery with near-term delivery, to ensure we’re delivering maximum value for our users.
- Empowering. Support our journey towards a high-performance culture that enables people to do their best work. With experience shaping how teams work together as well as how to measure success and set goals.
- Comfortable constructively challenging established processes and behaviours, to use design to its full effect within the business.
