The Director of Global IT will serve as the strategic leader for our IT operations, responsible for setting and executing the vision for a high-performance, service-oriented IT function. This role will lead the Help Desk and Systems teams, implementing and enforcing standards to ensure reliable, scalable, and secure IT services & Network infrastructure across our global footprint. The Director of IT will play a critical role in transforming team capabilities, driving, implementing &  maintaining major security initiatives, and enhancing service quality company-wide. This leader will be instrumental in fostering a culture of continuous improvement, efficiency, and technical excellence, ensuring our IT infrastructure and support services align with business growth and operational goals.

A Day in the Life of the Director of Global IT  at Similarweb means...

  • Leading and empowering global IT teams responsible for help desk support, infrastructure management, and systems reliability, ensuring top-notch service delivery across all regions.
  • Developing and implementing scalable IT standards and best practices, setting the foundation for efficient operations, reliable systems, and high-quality service throughout the organization.
  • Driving critical security initiatives, collaborating closely with the CISO & R&D teams to protect our systems, safeguard data, and align with industry regulations and public company standards.
  • Managing major infrastructure projects and upgrades, including network enhancements, cloud solutions, and other transformative initiatives that enable company-wide scalability.
  • Collaborating across departments, including Security, HR employee experience, R&D, MIS, and Procurement to align IT services with business needs, facilitating seamless technology integration and efficient workflows.
  • Responsible for IT service management processes, including onboarding/offboarding employees, incident resolution, problem management, and continuous proactive monitoring to ensure high availability, system integrity, and exceptional user experience.
  • Mentoring and developing IT team members, identifying skills gaps, enhancing technical competencies, and fostering a culture of growth, accountability, and high performance.
  • Championing automation and efficiency, using tools, scripting & AI models to streamline routine tasks, improve response times, and elevate overall productivity within the IT organization.

 

What will I bring to the team?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, CISSP, CISM) are a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience in IT management, including hands-on leadership of global IT operations, infrastructure, and service desk teams within high-growth, public companies.
  • Proven expertise in network management, infrastructure scaling, and endpoint security, with a strong understanding of global IT environments, data protection, and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001).
  • In-depth experience in IT security frameworks, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity, with a track record of implementing security best practices that protect data and ensure high system availability.
  • Experience managing and optimizing cloud infrastructure, including AWS or GCP, alongside virtualization technologies for scalable, resilient IT operations.
  • Solid background in service management (ITSM) and support tools such as ServiceNow, Jira Service Desk, or FreshDesk with a focus on delivering exceptional service and optimizing IT support processes.
  • Project management expertise in leading complex infrastructure projects, system migrations, and large-scale security initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.
  • Strong technical knowledge of collaboration tools, including environments, ensuring seamless technology integration and support.
  • Proven expertise in designing, operating, and maintaining advanced audio-visual systems for special events rooms, delivering flawless sound, visual clarity, and lighting setups that elevate presentation experiences and ensure Best-in-Class events.
  • Outstanding leadership skills, with a record of building, mentoring, and developing high-performing IT teams while fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization and align IT initiatives with business priorities.
