Our SelectLeaders client is launching a new General Contracting Company. This new venture will provide a distinct advantage in their pursuit of becoming a leading developer of industrial real estate in the Southeastern United States.
They are seeking a Director of Construction to lead and grow this new venture. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and adept at managing large-scale projects. They will have strong interpersonal communication skills, the ability to lead teams, and experience in overseeing multiple projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership: Build accurate and timely project budgets and schedules for projects ranging from $500k to $50M+ ground-up tilt-wall construction.
- Construction Oversight: Oversee all managerial and administrative aspects of construction projects, including estimating, scheduling, permitting, quality control, progress reports, billing, design review, cost reporting, safety, and proposal preparation.
- Team Management: Build and manage a team of Project Managers and Superintendents as needed, ensuring collaboration and adherence to project goals.
- Contract Negotiation: Lead contract negotiation and management for design consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Financial Oversight: Provide financial summaries, projections, and forecasts at both the project and company level. Manage budgets exceeding $50M and provide value engineering ideas when necessary.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks throughout the construction lifecycle, addressing challenges proactively to ensure project success.
- Client Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring their needs are met and fostering long-term relationships.
- Strategic Leadership: Oversee project teams across the Southeast, driving efficiency, quality, and profitability across all projects. Collaborate with executive leadership to align construction operations with overall business goals.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Design Coordination: Work with the design team to provide cost analysis feedback and constructability reviews. Understand tenant needs and ensure the project meets all client expectations.
- Process Improvement: Continuously seek opportunities to improve construction processes and efficiencies, leveraging data and feedback for better project outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Education: Relevant 4-year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 10+ years in the construction industry, with at least 5 years working with a General Contractor (GC).
- 5+ years of experience in Light Industrial, Distribution Centers, and E-Commerce Tilt-Wall Construction.
- Proven ability to manage project budgets exceeding $50M.
- Strong Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Project.
- Ability to lead project meetings with stakeholders, contractors, and clients
- Strong experience with project budgets, pay applications, schedules, and plans
- Analytical expertise in accounting, financial reporting, and invoice processing
- A proactive, independent work ethic with leadership in construction projects
