About You and The Role 

We are looking for an experienced global compensation professional to join us as our Director of Compensation, reporting into our Chief People Officer. In this role, you’re responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive compensation strategy that aligns with the company’s business objectives and talent management strategy. You will build and lead a world-class compensation team. 

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in managing global compensation programs and is ready to leverage that experience to deliver innovative & impactful results as Zipline scales into the future!  The ability to successfully manage multiple cross-functional stakeholders in a fast paced, high-growth environment is key to success. 

What You'll Do 

  • This role involves managing compensation, benefits, recognition, and equity programs to attract, retain, and motivate top talent while ensuring internal equity and market competitiveness.
  • Oversee the administration and evolution of Zipline’s compensation structures, including salary structures, variable pay, bonus plans, equity awards and other incentives. 
  • Build trusted working relationships internally with leadership, Finance, Legal, People, and team leads
  • Remain stay up-to-date with compensation industry market conditions and trends; design tailored strategies to ensure Zipline is able to attract and retain top talent across various segments
  • Regularly assess benefits offered to employees for their effectiveness; make recommendations to vary offerings based on current best practices, cost, and utility of benefits to employees
  • Develop communication strategies to educate both new and existing employees about their compensation
  • Partner with Legal to ensure that compensation practices are compliant with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Hire high performing individuals as needed
  • Embody servant leadership, doing everything necessary to enable team members and cross-functional partners to succeed

What You'll Bring 

  • 10+ years of HR work experience, including prior experience managing a global compensation program. Experience at a late stage start-up preferred
  • Significant compensation knowledge: demonstrated understanding of global compensation principles, global regulations and market trends
  • Analytical prowess: the ability to quickly analyze complex problems and draw conclusions from data
  • Excellent communication skills: a demonstrated track record of building internal relationships quickly and driving cross-functional work streams successfully
  • Professionalism: the ability to recognize confidential, sensitive and/or proprietary information and maintain confidentiality
  • Start-up mentality: an inquisitive, agile, and challenge-focused mind coupled with comfort navigating ambiguous and/or uncertain environments. Enjoyment building and thinking multiple steps ahead
  • Team leadership: track record of leading high performing, multi-disciplinary teams and building, mentoring and performance-managing talent
  • Strong attention to detail: an ability to hone in on the smallest details
  • Must be eligible to work in the US

WHAT ELSE YOU NEED TO KNOW

This role is based at our South San Francisco, CA; WFH flex days can be taken based on business needs.  

The starting cash range for this role is $ 190,000 - 230,000. Please note that this is a target starting cash range for a candidate who meets the minimum qualifications for this role. The final cash payment for this role will depend on various factors, including a specific candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, working location, and projected impact. The total compensation package for this role may include equity compensation; discretionary annual or performance bonuses; sales incentives; benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance; paid time off; and more.
