Director, Merchandise Planning

The Director, Merchandise Planning provides leadership and strategic direction to the planning team.  In collaboration with the Senior Director, work to optimize the financial results for the assigned departments in partnership with other functional areas. The position reports to Senior Director of Merchandise Planning.
 
What You’ll Do: 
  • Provide communication and leadership to the merchandise planning team.
  • Develop financial objectives and account for the financial results of the assigned division.
  • Prepare reporting dashboards with metrics and KPI’s that measure the departments performance and provide updates.
  • Guide the creation of original Top-down/Bottom-up planning process, including in-season foresting, pre-season assortment strategy and long range plans.
  • Set strategic benchmark/guidelines and partner with business partners on planning of sales, margins, mark-ups, discounts, promotions, events, and advertisement, identifies business opportunities; revises plan as needed.
  • Monitor gross margin monthly and act as needed to meet the financial goals.
  • Develop planning calendar process for event/seasonal based plans. 
  • Drive Open to Buy process for the assigned division with buying team and refine the receipt flow process to improve inventory turnover continuously.
  • Ensure excess inventories are reviewed with buying team; recommends specific SKUs to move to support goals.
  • Analyze historic and current trends providing analytical support to buying team.
  • Partner with Allocation counterpart to determine allocation strategies and ensure proper execution.
  • Create vision and direction to move the team forward with new methodologies, process improvements and industry knowledge.   
  • Actively seek insights from others and explore the intricacies of our business independently, driven by an innate desire for knowledge.
  • Ability to translate data into opportunities, providing actionable insights that guide our pursuit of strategic initiatives.
  • Navigate effortlessly from intricate details to high-level strategic initiatives, bridging the gap between precision and overarching strategy.
  • Bend the curve of results by moving beyond mere business forecasting, presenting both "stay-the-course" and innovative improvement options.

What You’ll Need:  
  • 8+ years of Planning/Allocation experience in a specialty retail environment.
  • 7+ years related experience that includes leading a team.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint (Microsoft Office Suite).
