Pumpkin is looking for a Director of Insurance Product to manage pet insurance offerings and drive business growth. Reporting to the COO and working closely with our leadership team and our partner carrier, you'll spearhead pet insurance product features that will set new industry standards, and manage the evolution of our existing product line. You'll be the driving force behind our insurance product development, directly impacting premium growth, market success, and profitability. Your recommendations on product design, pricing, underwriting, and distribution will shape the future of our business.
This role is a remote for those outside of a commutable distance of the New York City office. Some travel will be required (~15%). Individuals located in the NYC area will be considered hybrid, with a minimum requirement of 2 days a week in the office.

What You'll Do:
- Drive Pumpkin’s pet insurance product strategy and manage existing insurance product life cycle, in collaboration with the carrier, while ensuring compliance, effectiveness and profitability of insurance product operations.
- Direct and lead policy development for various distribution channels, with a strong focus on assessing market, customer and vet needs, as well as risk factors and ability to effectively impact loss ratio.
- Foster key relationships with our carrier partner and internal teams to create a seamless ecosystem that propels Pumpkin forward.
- Leverage data and analysis to provide critical business insights, strategies and solutions.
- Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends and competitor analysis for current and future market developments.
- Guide analyses utilizing modern statistical modeling and application in insurance pricing and risk selection.
- Manage a lean but high-caliber team of an actuary and data scientist to harness cutting-edge analytics to inform critical business decisions and cement our position as an industry leader.
What We're Looking For:
- 10+ years of insurance underwriting experience within property & casualty (P&C) or accident & health (A&H) insurance product management
- 5+ years in progressive management roles, with experience guiding cross-functional teams including actuaries, underwriters, and data scientists
- Proven track record of successfully developing and launching profitable insurance products that meet regulatory requirements
- Experience with DOI filing processes and navigating complex regulatory landscapes
- Expertise in risk assessment and profitability analysis, with a history of optimizing product performance
- Bachelor's degree in insurance, actuarial science, mathematics, risk management, economics, finance, accounting, or related field
- Insurance licenses or designations such as CPCU, ARM, ASLI, or AU
Bonus Points:
- Pet insurance experience
- Experience working for both carriers and MGAs
The compensation for this position ranges from $145,000- $180,000 (annually). Compensation may vary outside the listed range, based on a number of factors including but not limited to location, qualifications, performance, skills and experience. The compensation range listed is just one component of Pumpkin’s total compensation package for employees. Total compensation packages, depending on the position, may also include incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, and other short or long-term incentives. If hired, employees will be in an ‘at-will position’ and Pumpkin reserves the right to modify compensation (as well as any other discretionary payment or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
