THE POSITION

We are seeking a dynamic Director of Data Operations to lead FanDuel’s Data Engineering operations to deliver world class data platforms and data products across our business. This role requires a strategic and critical thinker who can oversee the seamless execution of data operations while ensuring the highest standards of quality data pipelines and products. The ideal candidate will develop and implement robust processes that drive world class program management delivery, operational support excellence and ensure reliable and timely delivery of data products.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, strategic thinking, experience with working with data teams and the ability to manage cross-functional initiatives. This role will be pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of the Data Engineering org, coordinating high-impact projects and facility effective communication across the broader organization. THE GAME PLAN
Everyone on our team has a part to play

  • Lead and mentor the Data TPM team by ensuring a culture of collaboration across cross-functional teams, strategic mindset, timely delivery of data initiatives aligned with the data strategy. Provide directional guidance to the team to manage highly impactful projects with measurable results and key results
  • Lead and mentor the Data Support team, fostering a culture of operational excellence across all data pipelines and data products, ensuring smooth execution of daily operations. Provide guidance and leadership across the data org and broader tech ops to deliver best in class support
  • Lead and mentor the Data QA team, fostering a culture high-quality data pipelines and products to establish continuous trust and integrity on our data products
  • Develop and execute strategic vision for the data operations org in alignment to the data engineering vision
  • Mentor a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation and continuous improvement
  • Partner with data engineering and data product leadership to define and execute collaborative roadmap
  • Manage vendor relations and engagement in relation to incident response and maintenance in-line with agreed SLAs
  • Proactively identify operational risks related to data processes and workflows and implement mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions
  • Define key OKRs and metrics for data operations org 
  • Regularly communicate with senior leadership and key stakeholders on the status of data operations, presenting key metrics (pipeline & data health), insights and recommendations for future initiatives
  • Stay current with key trends in the data space and contribute to the advancement of data engineering roadmap & strategy

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability with the ability collaborate with senior leadership across the organization
  • Has a customer first mentality with knowledge of sports and/or experiences working in regulated industries is a plus
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related fields
  • Strong understanding of Cloud services (e.g. AWS, Google, Azure)
  • Good balance of business acumen and understanding of engineering disciplines for overall business success
  • Willing to work nights, weekends, holidays if necessary, as well as being on-call for key events and major incidents

The applicable salary range for this position is $184,000 - $230,000, which is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, location, business needs and market demand. This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses and stock program participation. This role includes paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays. FanDuel offers paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
