About Coupang Play 

Launched in December 2020, Coupang Play is Coupang's OTT (over-the-top) service. Coupang Play aims to become the definitive destination for digital content. Backed by our strong Product and Engineering teams in Seoul, Singapore, and Mountain View — Coupang Play has been creating and optimizing the viewing experience for our customers. 
 
Coupang Play is available on mobile devices, tablet PCs, smart TVs, and your preferred browsers. We are building a competitive content library that includes TV for children and all ages, movies, live sports, educational content, and more. Coupang Play also creates original content, catered specifically to our customers.

Role Overview 

As the Director of Client Engineering at Coupang Play, you will define the experience of our service on all device platforms ranging from iOS and tvOS to Android and Android TV as well as web and smart TV. You will lead and grow a team of 30+ world class mobile and web engineers (based in Korea and Singapore) that are dedicated to delivering delightful and performant experiences to our users. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will institute scalable software development, testing and deployment practices and foster a culture of data driven insights including observability of key engineering metrics and instrumentation of key business metrics.     

What You Will Do 

• Build and lead teams of client developers committed to delivering a delightful service experience to our users 
• Develop a long-term engineering vision for our application platforms 
• Ensure consistency of experience across different device platforms and form factors 
• Develop scalable practices for software development, testing and deployment 
• Foster a data-driven culture including meaningful app instrumentation for key engineering and business metrics and A/B testing driven product innovation  

Basic Qualifications 

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, or Electrical Engineering or a related field 
• 15+ years of app development experience 
• 8+ years of management experience including experience in managing managers 
• Experience delivering mobile and web applications that were used at scale (millions of daily users) across a heterogeneity of device platforms with varying form factors and capabilities 
• In-depth knowledge of at least one of iOS or Android or web platforms 
• Excellent communication skills including working with business executives 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience working with on-demand and live streaming video 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Korean 
• Working proficiency in English
