Job Summary

 

The Coupang Media Group (CMG) is responsible for providing vendors that sell their products on Coupang a host of marketing products and services.  We launched Product Ads performance advertising marketplace late in 2018.  We have grown rapidly to a multi-billion (USD) ads business quickly in the past few years and we continue to grow fast. Our group is responsible for advertising brands and products on our ecommerce website. To get an idea of how valuable that is, both Alibaba and Amazon make more money on advertising than on selling products.  

To help shoppers find their ideal product requires solutions for many complex and challenging problems. Machine learning is the core enabling technology for us to achieve this. The ad relevance team is responsible for building ML models and algorithms that make sure ads displayed to end users are relevant for user queries and/or different recommendation context. This is critical for user experience, our business metrics (Ads Revenue and GMV), and the long-term growth of our ads business. 

 

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Define the long-term tech strategy and vision of the ads relevance models and oversee the design in conjunction with the engineering team. 
  • Recruit and coach individual contributors and managers across the ads org and develop that talent to create a world class engineering team. 
  • Manage and execute against project plans and deliver commitments. 
  • Work closely with the senior management team to ensure that development plans, resources, and strategies are coordinated across all departments in a cohesive and collaborative fashion. 
  • Lead your team to develop state-of-the-art (SOTA) Machine Learning models and features, applying rigorous offline and online testing methodology. 
  • Work closely and collaborate with other machine learning teams, and infrastructure teams across the company. 

 

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of industry experience 
  • Deep knowledge in machine learning, deep learning, information retrievals etc.
  • Great communication and leadership skills, organized, able to multitask. 
  • Proven skills in designing and delivering both production-level software and ML models.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks. 
  • Ability to mentor and growth team members. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural, cross functional team 
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, science or equivalent.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands on experience either directly training and applying Generative AI models / LLMs or working closely with your engineering team to do so.
  • Experience with advertising systems and / or relevance domain. 
  • Experience working with AWS (Amazon web services)
