The Details
The role sits within the Tax team and leads the direct tax agenda including Direct Tax compliance and Reporting, Transfer Pricing, Risk Management and Business Partnering. The role leads the direct tax and reporting team and covers overseeing the end-to-end compliance and reporting process, working with advisors on the preparation and submission of tax returns and transfer pricing documents, ensuring accurate reporting and disclosures in financial statements, working with the director of tax to set the tax and transfer pricing strategy, and dealing with ad hoc internal analysis and audit requests. It also leads on dealing with tax authority enquiries and supporting business initiatives. The role works closely with the Finance team to ensure correct reporting of balances, and with the Tax Transformation Lead to deliver process improvements. The role also works with the wider business to ensure any initiatives are appropriately considered from a direct tax and transfer pricing perspective, and implemented successfully.
What you'll be doing:
- Work with advisors to oversee the team in the preparation and submission of direct tax returns (and any other closely associated returns) for the UK and overseas – there may be instances where returns are prepared and filed in-house
- Work with advisors on Transfer Pricing strategy and documentation
- Ensure accurate end to end accounting and reporting, accurate balance sheet reconciliations and data integrity of information and prepare tax papers and forecasts for the CFO and Audit Committee
- Work with the business to understand and support any business initiatives and associated change impacts from requirements through to successful implementation to ensure compliance and accurate reporting including providing technical advice and working closely with advisors to add value to the business
- Work with the Tax Transformation Lead and the broader Tax team to identify and implement improvements to direct tax and reporting processes
- Identify potential tax risks and cash savings opportunities, and lead initiative(s) to manage the risks or realise the opportunities
- Deal with communication and queries from HMRC and other tax authorities
- Support auditors with providing appropriate supporting documentation, if requested

About You
- A tax accounting qualification (preferably CTA or ACA) and substantial experience
- Strong awareness of the mechanics of UK Direct Tax, Tax Reporting, and good awareness of transfer pricing and international tax
- Business partnering experience
- Financial accounting and reporting experience
- Experience of leading a team and delivering through others
- A proven ability to plan and prioritise own workload to meet tight deadlines
- A high standard of accuracy with financial data
- An ability to organise own work and to take initiative
- An ability to determine insightful observations from detail for management attention
