SAIT’s Continuing Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) focuses on non-credit programs supporting corporate training, the individual learner and international projects. We create courses and programs for life-long learning with careers at our core. Our courses range from exploring general interests to up-skilling for career advancement and reskilling for career changes. We complete all background activities required to set up our products for students to purchase and experience several delivery options.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Talent Services and Community Engagement, the Digital Pathways Advisor supports Continuing Education and Professional Studies learners in making informed choices and utilizing tools, strategies, and techniques to pivot or evolve their career. The Career Advisor provides career related advice and guidance to international students and alumni based on current recruitment practices and industry trends. Through one-on-one consultations, group advising, workshops, classroom presentations and recruitment events, the Career Advisor assist students & alumni in all aspects of career preparation, such as resume and cover letters, networking, professionalism, and practice interviews. The successful candidate will understand the barriers and challenges mid-career workers who are new to Canada face when pivoting their careers and providing appropriate support that increase success of career outcomes. This role will work closely with the Product and Learner Success team to deeply understand SAIT’s Continuing Education programs and provide informed advice to learners on choices.  If you are passionate about helping new international mid-career professionals transition into the technology industry and have the necessary skills and experience, please apply with your resume and cover letter.

The Role

  • Advise international continuing education students and alumni on current recruitment practices, labor market information and industry trends specific to their program of choice– this includes providing guidance and advise on resumes, cover letters, interview techniques, networking techniques and tips on professionalism
  • Meet with students/alumni in one-on-consultations, group advising circles, classroom presentations and seminars
  • Provide guidance to students and alumni for various job search tools on an individual or group basis
  • Coach students on interview techniques through practice interviews
  • Assist students in using current labour market information and tools to better understand industry, career choices etc.
  • Assist students in identifying career paths and the necessary transferable skills and competencies
  • Utilize personalized tools (My Career Pathways) to provide personalized guidance on career paths and transferable skills
  • Conduct comprehensive research on various community platforms, including but not limited to Circle, Mighty Networks, and Khoros Communities
  • Evaluate each platform’s features and capabilities to determine the most suitable option for our Continuing Education’s international students and alumni
  • Set up and implement a trial version of the selected platform, ensuring it aligns with the specific needs and preferences of our international students
  • Conduct ongoing research to ensure familiarity with current recruitment practices, labor market information and current industry trends as well as best practices from other post-secondary
  • Ensure familiarity with CEPS programs and specific nuances related to emerging careers
  • Create and curate career preparation resources for students, alumni and faculty
  • Create, deliver, facilitate and coordinate career support workshops and events to international continuing education students, community and industry partners
  • Collect and record information on job placement and career changes among international digital students in accordance with reporting requirements

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years work experience providing career advice (resume and cover letter writing, LinkedIn profile, Interview Prep) to career pivoters
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field such as Career Development, Human Resources, Communication, or Business
  • Experience in helping people overcome challenges to employment
  • Experience in facilitating group discussions

Skills Required

  • Experience in pre-employment and essential skill development knowledge
  • Facilitating experience
  • Strong communication, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational and time management
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of Calgary’s technology industry and labour market trends
  • High emotional intelligence skills
  • Coaching and mentoring experience is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Job Classification: Administrative Officer I
Salary Range: $58,566.95 - $63,449.10
Hours per week: 36.25
