Scope of Position:
Under the supervision of the Nutritional Services Supervisor and as a member of the multidisciplinary care team, to provide dietary services to respond to the Residents’ nutritional care needs and to provide safe, personally acceptable nutritious food to Residents.
Position Description:
- Undertake all duties and responsibilities in compliance with Health and Safety standards, guidelines and legislation, including compliance with Public Health standards and Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care regulations
- To follow point of service notes, relating to portion and various diets, foods and nutritional snacks to Residents in a safe and appetizing manner.
- To prepare and set up steam table counter and serving area
- To prepare dining room settings
- To clean and maintain kitchen and dining areas including floors, counters, cabinets, tables, furnishings, equipment and supplies (e.g. dishes)
- To dispose of recyclables and garbage
- To participate as a team member in providing Resident centered care and service
- Orientate new staff and student placements as required
- Participate in in-service educational opportunities
- Maintain awareness (at all times) of emergency procedures; participate in drills and associated educational opportunities.
- To be aware of and comply with all Corporate and facility policies and procedures
- Confidentiality is of extreme importance and must always be maintained
- Adhere to infection control policies, procedures, protocols, routine and additional practices as required
- Occasionally required to assist co-workers in tasks not directly related to this job
Requirements
Knowledge and Experience:
- Grade 12 graduation or equivalent
- Current Safe Food Handler Certificate
- Certified Food Service Worker Certificate (completed or enrolled in program prior to date of hire and must be completed within 3 years from date of hire)
- Previous experience in long term care dietary services an asset
Skills and Abilities:
- Resident and customer service focus
- Good communication skills (both oral and written)
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Familiarity with operation of telephone system and institutional kitchen equipment
- Must be committed to a common purpose, performance goals and approach
- Creativity in the plating and preparation/ presentation of attractive and appetizing meals
- Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department specific software to data search and entry and to create and modify word processed documents
- Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
