We are looking for a talented Development Specialist to join our Strategic Partnerships and Development team and support TLC’s Modernization Strategy. As Development Specialist, you will provide essential support in coordinating development activities, conducting research, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. You will play a key role in facilitating processes that safeguard public assets while enhancing community and social value.
You’ll work closely with the Development Manager and other team members, assisting in various stages of project development, from conducting site research to organizing stakeholder consultations. What you will do:
Support Redevelopment Initiatives:
- Assist in advancing redevelopment opportunities by supporting collaboration with internal and external partners.
- Help coordinate efforts to develop creative and sustainable redevelopment strategies for public lands.
Research and Site Analyses:
- Conduct research to gather background information related to site analyses, including, title, zoning, site servicing, environmental and geotechnical conditions, and planning approval requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of due diligence materials to support development concepts, business cases and planning applications.
Stakeholder and Consultant Coordination:
- Coordinate proposals, onboard project consultants and liaise with consultant team through the concept design and planning approvals process.
- Help manage communication between consultants, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
Project Documentation and Communications:
- Assist in preparing project updates, reports, presentations, and other materials for Senior Management, Trustees, Boards, and other stakeholders.
- Develop and actively manage project schedules including milestones, key decisions, budget and cash flow forecasting updates and communications.
Market Research and Strategy Support:
- Conduct preliminary market research and assist in gathering data to inform development strategies.
- Assist in identifying potential risks and opportunities for projects based on market trends.
Legal Agreement and Documentation Support:
- Assist the Development Manager in preparing drafts of legal agreements and other documentation required for property transactions.
- Support the negotiation process by organizing and tracking required documentation.

Requirements
What you will have:
Experience and Education:
- A minimum of 2-4 years of experience in real estate development, urban planning, or related fields.
- Completion of post-secondary education in Real Estate, Architecture, Urban Planning, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of local planning regulations and development approval processes.
- Ability to conduct research and analyze data related to development projects.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to assist in coordinating multiple tasks.
Project Coordination and Administrative Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to provide support in project management, including scheduling, documentation, and stakeholder coordination.
- Proficiency in preparing reports and presentations.
Teamwork and Communication:
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Willingness to build relationships and support collaborative initiatives.
Financial Literacy:
- Basic understanding of financial concepts related to real estate, including the ability to assist in analyzing financial information.
Self-Motivation and Adaptability:
- Ability to work independently with guidance from senior team members.
- Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges in a fast-paced environment.
- Passionate with a demonstrated interest in community building and improving education.
