Developer Advocate

The Developer Experience team ensures we stay connected with tech-loving communities. Third-party developers create applications and businesses on Sendbird's APIs and platform. As Developer Advocates, we enthusiastically promote Sendbird technologies and represent third-party developers’ interests within Sendbird to enhance the developer experience.

This position is ideal for engineers passionate about connecting with developers and speaking about cutting-edge technologies at developer conferences, user groups, and on blogs. It requires internal communication with Product Managers, Technical Writers, and SDK teams.

What You Will Do

  • Gather, synthesize, and share third-party developers' feedback with our engineering, product, and marketing teams to influence our product roadmap, enhance our APIs and new features, and ensure our offerings align with the needs and perspectives of the developer community.
  • Engage with our developer community by fostering relationships through participation in events like conferences, tech talks, etc.
  • Enhance the developer experience by creating inspiring demos, sample apps, and code samples.
  • Collaborate with technical writers and engineers to continuously improve our SDKs and APIs.
  • Produce engaging videos and host workshops for publication on our YouTube channel, podcasts, and other social media platforms to educate and connect with our developer community.
  • Conduct comprehensive product research and benchmarking, including competitor SDK/API analysis, B2B product trends, and monitoring developer communities.
  • Maintain a strong and credible presence in social media channels relevant to developers.

Who You Are

  • A strong communicator in both written and verbal formats.
  • Experienced working with and building third-party developer tools such as APIs, SDKs, and client libraries.
  • Active in online and offline developer communities and ecosystems such as open-source platforms, blogs, YouTube video series, tech conferences, hackathons, meet-ups, technical teaching, and training.
  • Comfortable with large group communications and presentations including both technical and business audiences.
  • Known for helping fellow developers.
  • A speaker at or host of in-person or virtual events.
  • Maintaining a strong social presence.

What You Bring

  • 1-2 years of technical consulting or in a community engagement capacity.
  • At least 4 years of experience as a software engineer, Developer Advocate, or equivalent technical experience.
  • Experience with one or some of the following: Android, iOS, React, React Native, Flutter.
  • Examples of written content (e.g., Medium, Dev.to, personal blog, other).
  • Experience in SaaS marketing and the AI domain

Pay Transparency

For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all roles based on function, level, and geographic location.  To determine our ranges, we utilize a variety of compensation data benchmarked against similar-stage growth companies.   A reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this role is $140,000 - $190,000.  This range is specific to the San Francisco Bay market.  We consider several factors when making final compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs that may cause your specific offer to vary from the amount listed above.

Flexible Work Policy

We offer a hybrid work schedule at Sendbird.  We value collaboration and relationship building.  With those values in mind, we require all employees within an hour's commute range of their local office to gather with their team in the office three times per week as a minimum.  Some of our roles require a more frequent in-office schedule.  Please work with your manager to understand the office time requirements for your position.
